Default GS’s AWD in extreme weather

Even though it spends 95% of its time in a dry garage due to COVID I had originally bought my 2016 GS in AWD specifically due to the heavy snowfall in northern New England. I’ve barely driven it in heavy rain, thick snow, ice, heavy sleet etc., although I have driven it in very cold temps (around 0deg F) for long drives and it handled it perfectly.

For those that have driven for extended periods in 3 inches or more of snow, how did your AWD perform? My tires are Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S with about 10,00miles on them.

I’ve had zero problems with several GS in snow. The AWD is great.

Need to take it out during the snow storms. Find an empty lot. Guaranteed you'll have the biggest smile on your face since covid.

I took my GS AWD on stock Michelin Primacy all seasons out in 8 inches of snow and it had zero problems. It's just amazing in snow.

it's -30C right now as i type this, and my gs starts without even being plugged in.. absolutely shreds snow/ice.. when i test drove it i went to an icy parking lot and tried to get it to slide.. it was hard. Proper winter tires and you'll be fine.

Only took my 4th gen out in some light snow once. Worked as expected but wasn't enough snow to be afraid of.

My 3rg gen, however, was a god damn snowmobile! I put some 215/55 snowies on and it just couldn't be stopped - by far the best sled I've ever driven. If I didn't need the space of the Rav I would have another 3rd gen just for winter

In Russia, snow slide under the GS no problem!

No problems at all in the Chicago snow. The GS AWD FSport makes a great snow plow.

Drove mine today in icy conditions and it made me feel secure. Handled the messy conditions very well

One of the best cars in the snow I've owned.
Includes an AWD Taurus SHO and Subaru Legacy GT.
It's fantastic!!
I'm on DWS06 tires.

I recall that one time I thought I was invincible with AWD and what I referred to as the "magical" snow button while driving through a snow storm with my GS. Neither help with breaking. Fortunately I gave myself enough stopping distance to not nail the person in front of me.

The snow button is useless. I drove 4 hours through a snowstorm with my RWD GSh just fine in normal mode. Just keep plenty distance from the car in front of you, easy on the brakes, easy on the gas, traction control is your friend.

The snow button limits the throttle map to be a little slower to respond, as well as it always starts in 2nd gear to limit torque and prevent wheel spin when starting from a stop

Thanks all. I keep managing to avoid snow this winter, but we're expecting snow throughout this week, so perhaps I'll have an opportunity to test mine out.
