Default Using the physical Key to turn on engine

Hi, how do you use the metal slide out key to start the engine if the battery dies? just curious. I don't see a slot to put in a key.

if the battery on the key fob dies, can you still use the Engine start push button as long as the key fob is in the car??

Good Question, remove the battery and try it. The GS will warn you that the battery is low, if you don't replace that 2 dollar battery, then you might run into issue. It takes about 1 minute to replace the battery.

You hold the fob close to the start button and it will start.

Flying3 knows what he is talking about. I first verified that my car (2015 GS 350 F Sport) would not start with the key fobs in the house. I then took 1 key fob to the garage and took the battery out of it and left it all on the work bench. Attempted to the start the car with the same result (no start) as the key fobs being in the house. I then took the battery-less key fob into the car and it would start, but only if the key fob was virtually touching the start/stop button. So, even without a battery at all, it will still start. Well done Flying3; thanks for the education. Tomorrow morning, I’ll verify my wife’s car (2015 IS350 C) operates the same way, then I’ll show her what a clever husband she has. Thanks Flying3 for making me look good!

This place would be dead if people read the manual.

Reading manuals… that is like pulling over and asking for directions or letting your wife hold the remote control!

If you bought it from Lexus brand new of the showroom floor or if it was CPO. Otherwise like me, you have to search the web for the car manual or ask simple questions like the one posted.

Metal slide out key is for opening the driver side door and trunk. And as a tool to release the shift lever lock so you can move it to neutral in case you want to tow it.

The only times I see my manuals is the day I got the car and the day I trade in the car. The rest I just search online.

And for locking the glovebox I assume? You take the physical key and leave the fob with the parking attendant. Although I've never noticed if our glovebox supports this.
