Default autotilt mirror problem

When I put my car in reverse the right side view mirror tilts in towards the window instead of down towards the curb. What gives? Is there a software problem causing this?

You can adjust the mirror while in reverse which will set it into memory.

To set the reverse side mirror tilt-down position - crank-up the car and put it into Reverse and then adjust the two side mirrors to how you like them for when you back-up. You must 'save' the setting into your seat memory... (Make sure the L or R button on the mirror control is lit up to activate the tilt down backup feature.) When the car is put back into Drive the two side mirrors will move back to the position you have chosen for normal driving.

Also, if you would like to set a different setting (e.g. dedicated for parallel parking next to a curb) you can set a different (2nd) tilt-down position and save it to a different seat memory.

His saying it tilts towards the window instead of down thats very strange, try messing around with the steps the guys above provided if that does not work there is a good possibility the mirror is not fitted correctly inside the assembly.

Thanks! I tried the procedure just as you described and it works perfect. It tilts in towards the window first then down towards the curb.

Wonderful! Glad I could help. That's exactly the way it is supposed to work.

Sometimes people take the car for a test drive and mess around with the mirrors. So the mirrors position while reverse gets saved in memory pointing up instead of down thus causing issues with customers complaints about mirror tilting the wrong way. This luckily can easily be fixed.

I personally have a friend who plays practical jokes on random people and friends by doing things like this for a laugh. He told me whenever he rents a car and returns them. He would change the settings from mph to kph. Change the time to incorrect time. And also set the car to a radio station and turn the volume up to max, so when the next renter turns on the car, will get a nasty surprise. So i can totally see someone mess with the mirror settings if he is familiar with lexus cars on test drives.
