Default Good Bye

I'm just making this post to say my final good byes to the Lexus world. I've traded in my 2013 AWD GS for $25000 and got a Charger SRT-8.
I'm having a kid soon so I needed a cheaper car to prepare for the future.

But I have one question has anyone noticed to big depreciation we're taking each year on our cars?

Am on the fence about trading in mine but I don't want to lose a lot of money and the lowest I'll take is 35k not even 28k miles on it fully loaded premium cold weather pckg immaculate inside and out.comes with extended warranty. What you think?

You got shafted on the trade-in.

Just a matter of time before you're trading that Charger for an SUV/Minivan.

Congrats on your new addition. As for your trade in. Might of gotten more out of your trade with patients? Really depends on condition/millage. Maybe time was of the essence? I think that Dodge is going to drop faster than the lexus has in time

I think you're going to find out having a SRT-8 is going to cost you more due to lower gas mileage, I don't think you're insurance will be that much lower as the SRT-8 is considered a high performance model.

None the less, good luck with your choice.

You got totally killed. Wow, at that price you really should have just kept the thing, this actually cost you money, didn't save you money.

Maybe he wanted something different. Larger, more powerful, etc...

Let's not judge the guy... Lol

$25k isn't be too bad for a base model with a good amount of miles on okay condition It's a trade-in.

My car will have a residual value of $30k after 3 years n 36k miles. These cars don't keep their value well. Even then, the dealer will probably have to add CPO package to get that much

That's a different thing. To say he did this to drive a cheaper car though is fantasy, this move cost him a lot more than just keeping the GS.

I see this a lot. People get focused on payments and make trades that cost them huge sums to get a different payment. Yeah the payments on the GS were more...but he's at least half way through them, now he has cheaper payments but for a longer term and he's starting the depreciation curve all over again. He could have refinanced the GS and reduced the payments and not incurred this huge loss to trade out.

The GS does seem to take a big hit in depreciation over its first 3-4 years. Its crazy how you can now buy a 4GS for almost half the price of a new one.

Depreciation is insane on luxury cars. Lexus seems to be better than most but if you look at Ze Germans that are out of warranty, the resale value really tanks. First 2 years are the worse and year 3-4 sucks as well but not as much. I'm about to end year three with my GS but I still love it. Plan to keep it at least 6 years before trading her in.

With the depreciation, the smart money goes to the lease return market. Unless your ego and pissing contest prowess says otherwise.

More and more folks who can afford these cars brand new will not keep it that long. Like a trophy girlfriend, you'll always look for a newer one.

Well..

How many miles were on the car? Was it a base with nav only or was it a cold weather pack/18" wheel car or a Lux/F-Sport?

Any damage history? Color?
