Default Drove AWD F Sport in Snow First Time Today......

My new 15' F Sport AWD is the first AWD car I've owned and driving in the remnants of the blizzard today was like cutting through cake with a hot knife, smooth. Wow it was night and day from having a FWD car. Crazy a 300hp + car handles so well in nasty conditions. I don't think I will ever go back to a 2wd car again!!

Subarus are one of the best AWD systems. The key to great AWD is symetrical design. Combined with a boxer engine which lowers center of gravity make for a beast in the snow.

I managed to get out of 5-6" of snow and didn't really slip. I bet if I had Blizzaks, I wouldn't have slipped once.

Does anyone know how much the power is split between the front and rear wheels in terms of percentage?

My AWD IS350, with this same drivetrain, was phenomenal in the snow. Luckily I haven't had to try out my GS in the snow yet, but I expect great results.

Normal is 30% front, 70% rear, but up to 50/50 as needed.

How's the acceleration between AWD and RWD? Which one is quicker? GTR is AWD and it's quick!

Also here in NY, the GS does perform nicely! Only issue is if too much snow gets packed in the wheel well. Other then that, gets trough just fine.

Snow driving has more to do with tires than AWD vs RWD

Glad I dont have to deal with snow/cars, changing tires/salt.
Seen some of your winter pics and got so sad, cars look like crap in snow

Tires do have to do alot with it but the GS AWD is crazy good, I'm driving with summer, not my choice I'm not really driving the car for winter but when I take it out and its snow on the ground it manages through the snow.

Does the AWD system in the Lexus work the same as the Toyota, Honda & Nissan ?
Is the Lexus a time AWD when slippage is detected, a second motor is activated and the other axle receives power ?

Or is it more like the Subaru or BMW with torque being distributed to all axles at the same time ?

Mine was excellent in the snow too. Made me a believer in these AWD luxury sedans, whereas before I got the GS I had really chosen the AWD because I couldn't find a RWD one in my region. I no longer have the Jeep, but at the time I felt my GS handled better in the snow than the Jeep as long as we weren't talking more than about 5 inches.

My LS seems to be every bit as good, being long its a little harder to maneuver than my GS was.

Lexus AWD is full time AWD, however it is rear biased, i believe 30/70%. That still gives it a RWD feel but with significantly better traction. It is like a subaru STI with the centre diff control tuned to 30/70.

The old infiniti m35x for example was 10/90 bias, making it much more susceptible to get rear wheel spin. I don't notice too much of a change vs my celica GT4 which was 50/50.
