Default '13 Passenger Side Mirror Smashed, Help

Backing out of garage this morning I brushed against the side and smashed a piece of plastic out of passenger side view mirror. Sent a picture to parts department of local Lexus dealer and quoted 304.80 for "special order" part + 300 for labor. This is an insane price for a non-functioning piece of plastic. Thoughts on best DIY way to proceed? I have the broken off plastic, but it does not sit flush in the assembly.

Did you try your local independent mechanic? Their labor quotes are usually more digestible and they can get their hands on the same parts. OR, you can get the parts/assembly unit yourself (Ebay, etc) and get a quote for installation.

Wait until one shows up on ebay to save ~$200 or try mlparts.com for a discounted new price. Install it yourself, not too hard if you are a little mechanically inclined.

Looks like you only damaged the casing. See if you can find the casing on ebay, this mirror comes apart easily and you can replace just the outside case.

I superglued that ***** back on for now. Need to find some black touch up paint to go over the cracks. Would a traditional touch up paint work better than black plastidip?

All 13+ GS's have the inner part of the mirror assembly in a glossy black finish. The outer cover is plastic and is the color of your car. Looks like all you really need is a new (or used) inner, black glossy part of the assembly.

I could be wrong but I don't think Lexus will sell you that part alone as they want to try to sell you the entire assembly which is comprised of the outer plastic casing, Inner Part (the one you need) the wiring, the LED light, and the mirror base.

There is someone on ebay selling an entire passenger side mirror for $140: http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-15-LEXUS-...xWAZQD&vxp=mtr

If you wanna save some $$$, i'd get the mirror off eBay and just take out the inner part that you need. Then sell the outer shell casing that you don't need. The mirror itself is simple to work with - see the threads on replacing your puddle light and it will give you some idea as to the work involved.

Read the thread regarding the LED puddle light replacement. My cover and black trim piece came off when I was following the instructions, you should be able to fix it yourself that way. At least check it out and see if it's doable. Could at least save you $300 in labor. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Edit: here you go.

It's not a big job. I was at my Lexus dealer waiting for an oil change and the service adviser came in and told a lady that they had damaged her mirror when they ran it through their car wash and they were replacing the mirror assembly. 30 minutes later the adviser came back and told the lady her car was ready to go.

Stupid question, but is the mirror the exact same shape on the 14/15 vice 13? Obviously I just need the insert, but want to make sure before I get something that's slightly different.

All the same from 13-15. The insert is the same on the GS and LS, so if you find one from the LS it will work. The ES, CT & IS use the same mirror but that insert is matte plastic not glossy plastic.

Too bad there isn't one in Silver on ebay. I did the same thing to mine leaving the in-laws cramped garage with tons of people not moving out of the way as I backed up.

$650 for a dealer replacement doesn't work for me... I'll figure something out. Timely post.

Did the same thing to my mirror backing out of the garage. Ordered the replacement insert and housing for $97 online from a Lexus dealer. Replacement - with the help of the puddle light thread - wasn't too bad. About 30 minutes and it looked like new again.
