Plus GS is still under warranty and I prefer the documented service at the dealer.
How much does your dealer charge for an oil change for the GS?

Many cars have been going the 10K interval route for quite a while already and there doesn't seem to be many oil-related problems. But if it gives you peace of mind to change it more often, then do it.

This for sure^ Lexus wouldn't recommend 10k without some wiggle room to protect themselves. Unless you're running your car pretty hard.. then you really have nothing to worry about by waiting until 10k to change.

I'm also not sold on the Toyota oil. Las t I checked Toyota is not in the refinery business so Toyota oil is whomever they contract out to produce their oil, often times by the lowest bidder. Oil debates can get testy so use whatever you feel makes you happy.

Mobil produces their oil

Also conventional motor oil shouldn't be used to that extent. BITOG has done plenty of research regarding that and more.. yes, Toyota engines are generally pretty tough and can take plenty of abuse, but it doesn't mean that you should do it.

If you'll do some research you'll find that full synthetic engine oil is actually good for ~36,000 miles (or much more) under normal operating conditions. If you actually tested your used synthetic engine oil after 'only' being used for 10,000 miles you would find that it would be literally as good as brand new synthetic oil. I know it makes some people feel better to change it one time between recommended 10,000 mile service intervals, but there truly is no need to do it.

That was back in 2007 but regardless the point all along as that Toyota doesn't produce it's own oil. People tend to think because it has Toyota/Lexus label on it, it must be better. Not always the case but I digress.

I keep my cars a long time, 10+ years at least and IMHO, any major brand oil will do. As long as you follow the the intervals in the owner's manual you should be OK. To each his own though as people will sleep better at night if they change their oil more often or use a certain brand.

Hey guys I have a 2014 GS 350 RWD.

I currently use Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil in my 2001 Lexus IS300 with the matching extended performance oil filter.

Would this setup be ok for the GS350 as well?

People like using OEM filter but I don't see how that's good if you use extended performance oil.

And is there anything wrong with using extended performanc oil if the car is still pretty new? Doesn't even have 10k miles on it yet.

I found the filter number:

m1c-256

http://www.opticatonline.com/part/mo...ine-oil-filter

https://mobiloil.com/en/oil-filters/...ce-oil-filters

but it's $18.99 for just the filter!

but the oil is cheaper than OEM oil. Mobil 1 extended performance is $25 for 5 qts.

Highly doubt it would make much of a difference, but it shouldn't hurt. As long as it's 0W-20

Agreed! I just use the cheapest 0W20 I can find from WalMart, mixing brands when I run out of a package and everything is good to go!

I agree as well, that's why I'm buying walmart oil. Mobil 1 extended performance with matching filter.

I use the same in my IS300 and it is MUCH better than other oils I've tried so far.

What are peoples thoughts on Pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-20, seems like a good oil out there? I thinking of running it on the next oil change.

Wasn't the oil recommendation for the 3rd Gen GS and IS350 5W30 but then they had a TSB to use 5W20 a few years later? Now they say OW20 for the 4th Gen. This sounds more like placing the most priority on fuel economy over engine protection. In hotter climates I would feel safer using a OW30 over a OW20. Does anyone use OW30 for their 4th Gen GS, OW30 German Castrol is a full synthetic which is rare to find at auto parts stores where most "synthetic" oil is a highly refined semi synthetic.

If it was me I wont use $18.99 oil filter, its just a paper filter wont make any difference trust me , stick with the factory filter for $7 and just use Mobil 1 , do not use Pennzoil crap, if Mobil 1 oil was not good oil my friends 650HP Vet wont be using it , and if u want to be to picky about the car change it at 5000 miles like I do , and trust me that thing stays clean, again it all depends on ur budget and if its a lease and u dont care u gonna return it just use whatever 0-20w oil the cheapest in the market.
