Default 4th Gen GS 350 longevity

Anyone here have a 4th gen with high mileage on it? Wondering about long term observations. I am planning on getting a GS 350 and I'm the type of person who keeps a car at least 6+ years on average. My dad owns an ES 330 thats about 10 now (with at least like 176K on it) and the thing still runs great,, I imagine similar longevity is possible with a GS 350 without too much drama. My main goal is that I can get it to last at least till about 225K or so. Car will be used 80% highway driving 20% city on avg.

I dont know if its high mileage but I have 48K on mine right now. Its one of the early 2013 builds. So far the only major things I had to do was replace the tires.

The ride feels a bit harsh but I have heard that may be a blown shock ( I have seen couple of people having that issue) So far so good.

I can't imagine you'd have any problems provided you take good care of it.

Biggest issue is the Nav/Infotainment crashing every 3 to 4 weeks. Also had a thumping issue with the rear passenger side on cold mornings (-10C). Noise, persisted after dealer replaced the shock. The dealer then lubed the bushings and problem is less apparent.

Otherwise I have no complaints. The car has generally enough room, engages me enough in my crowded urban setting and coddles me in my crowded urban setting.

Only other point, a customer complained to me the car is just a big Toyota and doesn't have the quality of European brands and singled Volvo out for high European quality. So there you have it

My seat always squeaks in the morning when first starting the car. Sounds like a stomach growling but I know it wasn't me!

I can't pinpoint it where exactly it's coming from but it's coming from the seat area. I thought it was the auto lumbar support but even when it's flattened it still makes that noise. Any ideas? It only does that in the morning, especially on a cold one then it's fine for the day.

Considering the powertrain in the GS isn't new, you should be good there. Mine has had about 100 small issues that have been taken care of for the most part though.

I know your asking about a 4th generation, but I owned a 2001 GS for 10years with the majority of the bigger problems occurring past the 100k mark (catalytic converter, O2 sensors, alternator, spark plugs, suspension) which weren't a shock to me expected.

I recently purchased a '13 GS350. Its certified and i've not had any problems with the car so far (46kmiles). During my search, I came across several 2013 GS350s that had 50-60k miles and were being certified to 100k by Lexus dealers around the Northeast. My dad drives a certified 2011 GS and he has had zero problems so far (except for the infamous dashboard rattle on that generation which is a known issue that they fixed under warranty). I agree with sick21 - since the drivetrain and powertrain aren't new, the build quality is there and are proven from the carryovers of the previous generation.

Mine squeaks when I'm first in it too...rather annoying. Only thing I can figure is that it's coming from the hinge connecting the backrest to the seat. Mine sounds kinda like a higher pitch squeal and happens when I hit a bump or slightly move in the seat.

So thankful my seat doesn't make sounds. That'd drive me crazy. My GS is pretty solid I love it!!! Mechanically, it has been a very very good car. I think the other issues I have had, they aren't a big deal. They can happen on any vehicle. Some more than others but oh well. And both Lexus dealers I have been to have been nothing but helpful and understanding. Much better than say, a Chrysler or GM dealer...

I am at around 53k on my '13 GS 350 Fsport and the only issue I have run into thus far has been an annoying squeak in the steering wheel when turning left or right. I took it in once already for the issue and the squeak persists. Its annoying but certainly not a major issue. I plan on keeping the car for a number of years as well so lets hope it all holds together

I should also point out that I purchased the car CPO back in November 2014 so I haven't had it for very long

If the car doesn't have an engine issue like the 3gs you can put however many miles you want on it. (NO can't let the carbon build up in the 3GS slide). We haven't gotten that far out yet and won't know probably for another 2 years about that.

Thanks for the feedback guys... that's kinda what I figured. Right now I'm a 2010 Camry LE V6 owner and I have like 180K on the thing and it still runs great. I'm probably not even going to trade it on on the GS, unless they offer me stupid money for it, and just run it in the winter and beat that up instead from Jan-March. (MA is hell on cars, particularly wrt potholes, etc. )

One other qauestion... anyone running into battery issues with these? The "mysteriously dead battery" thing seems to be a persistent topic in some circles, but I'm not too worried about it. My mom has an ES350 and her battery was dying all the time for seemingly no apparent reason. Then she figured out how to disable the smart key thing (which lets you touch the door handle to unlock the car) and from that point onward battery never died again, of course that could have been a coincidence. I also read Lexus might have an ECU patch for this stuff?

As far as the engine is concerned, this engine has been in service in the GS and the IS for 10 or so years without major issues. I'd call that long enough to consider it reliable.

Ive owned 3 diff Gens of GS's, 2 diff Gens of IS's 2 diff Gens of GX's & 2 diff Gens of RX's, an ES & a SC & have never had any issues (unless I created the problem myself) when it comes to the longevity of these vehicles & I drive hard, not to mention a Modification specialist...
