Default Gas Tank Fills Up To 15 Gals?

I know the tank capacity of the GS is 17.3 gallons, i have a dumb question, I noticed every time i fill up the tank to full it only fills up about 15.0 - 15.3 gallons. Im guessing the other 2 gallons are in the reserve tank however it indicates i have only 4 miles left to go. If i have 2 gallons and im averaging around 20 mpg shouldnt i have atleast another 20-30 miles to go ?? im confused ?

I have noticed that two for the past few years, and yes the last 2 gallons are reserve fuel so I typically know that when the tank is 0 cruisng range I go around 20-30 miles extra.

Car makers do that you don't really run out of gas when the indicator says "0 miles". The idea is to get folks to fill up before then when they see the estimates go down to 0 so it's less likely they'll get stuck on the road.

So are you guys guaranteeing that even if the indicator shows 0 cruising miles, that i can atleast go another 20 miles for sure ? Because i want to try this but i dont want to be the dumb *** blocking the whole freeway because he ran out of gas.

When you're planning on doing this stunt, you could just get a two gallon jug and fill it and store it in the trunk when you're already at 0, then set the trip odo and see how far you go.

But only do it on a long stretch where you can get off away.

Please don't carry gas in your trunk in a "jug"

There was also an episode of Seinfeld about this. I'll refer you to that!

I filled up my car from empty to full for under $40 today About 6 months ago prices for gas was $3.99 here, i would pay almost $80, 2 times a week to fill up the Challenger. Would pay $700 a month of gas lolll. Not a great daily driver. Im paying around $200 a month just driving the GS. WOWOW

The price of gas is an unbelievable difference. I filled the Jeep up from an 1/8th of a tank for $48 (thats a 24 gallon tank), used to be over $75.

Very good point SW13GS ( our safety Marshall ) Hey your always looking out for our members safety, Thank You

Do it all the time, in an approved fuel jug ONLY !!!

Just make sure it securely fastened so it can't tip over, no smoking in the car!

But I also carry an emergency kit and 10lbs. Fire extinguisher at all times as well.

Please report back your findings!

I wouldn't be running out of gas with a fuel injection engine.

There is really no excuse for anyone to ever come close to running out of gas.
