2014 GS F sport AWD RIM Rant
So I've had the IS 300 / Rx 300 / Is 250 AWD and now the GS 350 AWD F sport
I live in NYC Metro Area and do know we have some of the worst roads in the country.
While it's inevitable driving on the highway, you may hit a pothole here and there. I would still like to say I'm pretty careful with my car.
I've had the GS for about 6 months now and after the recent snow storm, I began to experience a slight rattle at 60 mph and a bit more during 40 mph cruises. While it's just a slight rattle, I figured it must be the snow in the wheel arches and wheel well as I've read even 1 oz of snow can cause an imbalance.
Fast forward a few days, I was still experiencing the rattle so i decided to take it to the stealership.
1.5 hr later, my service lady tells me that all three rims are bent. WTF man I've never had any bent rims on the other cars. I had the tires balanced a month too at the stealership and nothing came back bent. ****** driving in NYC. Of course they tried to get me to buy a new set of rims but f&&K them, took it to a rim shop and got a rim job for 50 each.
Is it because the 19" Rims can't handle the NYC beating? Do curb rash also effect the wheel balance?
I've had the car for 6 months so far and nothing but bad luck with it so far.

I've had bad luck with my wheels too in 5 months of driving it. 2 rashes already and 1 tire gash and it wasn't even me who did it. lol

I mean...the 19s have about 1.5 inches of sidewall height to the tires. If you hit a bunch of potholes, the wheels are going to get bent.

When u mean rattle do you mean vibration???? If you are npt careful any luxury car with low profile rim will get bent or curbed and throw off the balance. You need to get it straightened. Use hunter road force machine when checking rim true ness and tire roundess at the lexus dealer. It cost extra but i never use anything else. The 19 inch f sport rims are so strong and far more durable then my BMW rims so i havent bent one ever in 3years and 40k.

19"
Front 235/40 x 19 = 3.7" Sidewall Height
Rear 265/35 x 19 = 3.65" Sidewall Height
18"
235/45 x 18 = 4.16" Sidewall Height (~10% or 1/2" more Sidewall Height compared to 19")

You know its not that easy to bend factory wheels, the F Sport wheels are single piece forged wheels and are EXTREMELY strong. It would take an immense amount of down force to bend them. I would understand slamming one wheel really hard into a pot hole and bending it but 3 wheels ? You are talking about the factory F Sport wheels correct ? not aftermarket.
I tried putting 19s on my 2014 GS RWD and I could feel every single pebble on the pavement, I would cringe every time I would see uneven pavement coming up, I don't know how some people drive on 20s, you cant tell me you don't notice a difference. And unless you change the suspension or shocks it is impossible for 20s or 19s or be more smoother than 18s.

Thats not entirely correct. The standard factory fspoert 19 inch rims are cast alloy. The optional 19 inch forge rims that i have are forged and it engraved nicely on the outside of the rim. Its a very rare option. The standars 19 are graphite color. Regardless lexus rims are very strong.
