HUD Useless under certain conditions.
Picked up my new GS350 AWD yesterday.
Couldn't figure out why I was having difficulty seeing the HUD. All those nice friendly people doing the delivery didn't say a thing when I was telling them I couldn't see the HUD, just a very faint outline.
On my way home it dawned on my I wear Polorized Prescription sun glasses. Took them off and there was a nice bright beautiful display in front of me.
I don't think there is a work around ( hoping I'm wrong) as the that's what Polorized lens do, they reduce glare. the HUD works by bouncing light off the windshield, so the glasses do there job and block out that reflection
Guess I'm buying a new pair of sunglasses that are not Polorized just for use in the car.
Sweet drive home though! Beautiful well mannered powerful vehicle that handles like a dream! That red glow from the dash when in sport mode is a SWEET touch I didn't know existed.

Well I guess all my sunglasses are polarized then cause I can see nothing when I wear them.

Pole Position
Yeah, the thing with that is polarized sunglasses are particularly effective at filtering out light that grazed off a surface at a low angle, like road glare from a sunset. Unfortunately the HUD also reflects off the windshield at a low enough angle that polarized sunglasses filter it out fairly well, too. It's a basic physics issue where, to the extent they work better for filtering out glare, they will always work "better" for filtering out the HUD.

My only reason for the post to let let others not familiar with a HUD (like me) that polorizing lens will causes issue seeing the HUD. I'm sure lots of people shopping for a new vehicle read these forums

I never look at the speedo anymore. I always use HUD, and my sunglasses are prescription and polarized as well. Maybe it's the color HUD on the 2014 models. My '13 GS HUD is just white.

Make sure you have the HUD set for brightest. I wear polarized and can see the display under most conditions. If I recall it is when the sun is to the rear of the car that it is much fainter.
