Question Help: Buy 2015 GS and Trade in 2013 GS

Need assistance from the forum that I have followed and contributed these past three years. I have a 2013 GS new after I traded my 2007 GS. I was disappointed that 2013 went backwards as far as folding mirrors, auto trunk and newer LED lights and certain navigation and phone limitations. The 2015 GS will have the folding mirrors, auto trunk, LED fog lights and the Generation 8 navigation, Siri eyes up and cross backup and some minor changes interior like the joystick being replace by a touch pad like on laptops. Indications from Lexus through some of my high level contacts is the 2016 GS will have lights and grill changes as well as full integration of the navigation and voice control beyond the 2015 improvements. This will be the mid-cycle changes on the 2016 until 2018, I am thinking of leasing from now on and 2016 might be better than 2015 so I am ready for the 2018, etc. Should I get the 2015 or wait another year for 2016? My 2013 has every option available and has 17,000 miles. Advise is greatly appreciated.

If you can tolerate not having the desired options on your current car, then you should wait. Sounds to me like you will be in the same predicament when the mid-refresh hits, do I keep what I have, or do I unload for the new?

If you can, wait for the mid cycle refresh in '16.
You may be sorry if you don't.

Wait for the 2016. The 2015 is basically the same car, the only differences are the changes made in 2014 plus the updated Nav. The RTC is not the mousepad type like it is on the RC, its the same.

Carpe Diem. Life is too short. I used to be like you. You end up with more regrets and less fun by waiting for the perfect thing to come. Buy a 2014 with 90% of what you want and a nice discount.

That's why I traded in from a premium to FSport in just 5 months into my lease. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody but I've never been happier in my life!

But then he's going to feel the same way in 2016 when a thoroughly refreshed GS comes out. Its one year.

There's "carpe diem" and then theres being foolish. He's going to get killed on the 2013 going for a 2015 or 2014 early. Then he's going to get killed on that car when he goes and trades the 2014/2015 on a 2016.

If he were waiting without a GS until the 2016s come out you might have a point, but the 2013 is identical to a 2014 except for 3 features. Power folding mirrors, power trunk, and climate concierge seats. If you can hang on without those things you're going to have the car you really want, a refreshed 2016 and will have saved yourself thousands and thousands of dollars.

Buy the OEM LED fogs and put them in your 2013 (many of us did) and wait for the 2016.

You are the best. The suggestions are sound and practical so I really should wait till the 2016 GS comes out this time next year. The Lexus officials I spoke with are doing a refresh for the GS in 2016 that will complete the updated navigation for the 2015 and more. Thanks everyone. Be well.

I had a 2013 and traded into a 2014 and am super pumped! I traded my car in 8 months away from my lease being up and my payment went down $183 per month, I did do it during the golden opportunity event, but not sure he would "get killed" on getting out of his current car but I also dont know how long he has had it as well.

I got out of a VW lease 14 months early and my payment went down $110 I'm a happy camper. Leases can be screwy but if you shop hard and are lucky enough to find a half decent internet sales manager, then it can work in your favor. Sometimes.

Hey there. Do you remember how Lexus handled your early lease return for the GS F Sport? I'm about to return my IS 24 months early for the GS F sport and would like to get an idea please!

Rudy
it's all up to dealerships how they want to price your car and play with numbers to make you switch (you likely "lose" money anyway). lexus financial doesn't really deal with early lease returns (unless on some 6 month before lease end programs to go into new lexus)

Thanks I appreciate it. Just hoping it's not a loss of a few thousand dollars. Need to visit dealer.

it really comes down to the market price. i am not too into the IS to tell if dealer inventory / used market is too flooded or not, which will affect the price they offer you. but the good thing is they are trying to push out gs badly so maybe they are more willing to work the numbers with you
