So after many months of threatening to do it, I finally got around to loading flac and ogg format music folders onto the car's usb drive. As I suspected the ML does not recognize the folders.

I will likely convert the music over to mp3. Any suggestions on a good tool to do this?

I've had OK results with flacsquisher. The main thing you might find useful in this case is you can tell it, here are my folders full of FLAC files over here, make the same folders and fill them with MP3 files over there.
