What do they do on the 5k service on rwd models besides checking bolts and fluids? Seems like a waste of time to bring the car in when they're not really doing anything to it.

It's also the only time when you can have the dealer change some of the options to your liking.

True, but they do a left to right rotation rather than the standard X pattern rotation due to the staggered setup. Also do a multipoint inspection and fluid top off. This is the first few months of a new car's life, they want to ensure it was put together correctly and have the chance to prevent future disasters.

About someone who said the 5k is the only chance to have the dealer customize settings, actually, in the owner's manual, you're supposed to visit the dealer at the 1k mark to have this done, but you can do it at any time free of charge. I did my custom settings at 5k though, and it tacked on an extra hour (at least) because the techs hadn't done the turn signal change before.

I guess you can but this is what's on the website and in the manual:

LEXUS PERSONALIZED SETTINGS (LPS)
Certain electronic functions can be customized to an owner's individual preference, such as automatic door locks, theft-deterrent system, power window system, illuminated entry system and moonroof operation. Each Lexus model has a different set of customizable electronic features. Depending on the model, programming of these features is performed once at no charge either at the 30-day/1,000-mile scheduled maintenance service, or the 6-month/5,000-mile scheduled service.
