Default USB goes to audio off

While playing music from a usb stick, it will go silent, not show on media screen as being an option and say audio off. I have tried two different sticks with the same result. If I unplug the usb and plug it back it will start playing where it left off, then do it again, stop playing and show audio off. There is power to the usb, because it is still lit when all this happens.

Does it do it on the same song or same file type?

no not the same song, also random time from when it goes off, when I put in a different usb it played for about 25 minutes and I thought it was the original usb, then it went to audio off, and wouldn't play one song after that, before going to audio off

Hmm, I'm stumped. You might have to take that to the dealership. If 2 different USB drives have the same problem, it's probably something in the car.

did some one spill something into the USB hole? something with sugar in it? sugar water never dries in circuitry... and if something warms it up, it's viscosity goes down and... becomes conductive enough to short out the circuitry... the 2 pins in the middle carry data, and shorting them out basically puts it into charge only mode...

this is a huge accusation on my part, but... sounds strikingly similar... does it happen more once the USB Stick / Car interior is warmer?

Same here, I'd be listening to a track and it will just randomly turn off - Audio Off

I have always used a splitter, one slot for charging phone, and no problems, when this started I had plugged the two different USBs directly in and got the "audio off", today I went back to the splitter and had no problems????? no audio off, just kept playing.

The cure, at least for an iPod classic, is to turn off "display cover art" in the setup screen. Had my GS for about a month before I figured it out. May work for the USB stick as well.
