I mean...any light projected down the road is going to improve night time visibility...and any light on the car is going to make it more visible to oncoming drivers. Its a question of the degree.

It's a bit overkill since we already have LEDs underneath our headlights and super bright HID headlights. But again it does look cool. Cosmetic mod.

IMO, fog lights are usable ...in foggy condition. I used to live in San Francisco and when it's foggy, the headlights would be too scattering and blind others. Fog lights really helped. Driving lights (can also be placed in fog light location) are usable in dark condition when you need a little more light. I had a set of PIAA 1100 more than 10 years ago and still remember how bright these were. I had them on my Runner and even big SUV got blinded by these lights. I only had them on when I was in dark zone and noone was near me.
For the GS, esp with the self adjustable HIDs on luxury model, unless you live in a foggy area, fog lights are more for look IMO. It may give you a little more light but really insignificant compared to the self adjustable HID. I'm very happy with the VLEDs. Every evening when leaving the office, I drive through and into some stores with glass front. It always puts a on my face when I look into the glass. I too prefer complete fill vs the rectangular. But I guess fashion is what that is different. Or people say whatever floats your boat.
For those who want to know how the VLEDs look, here is a shot I took the other evening.

The new OEM LED fog lights produce some very nice useable light output with sharp cut off. But it still only good for cosmetic look. You still need the low beam on for driving at night. The rectangular design help produce the sharp cut off. And the usable light will be much better than any LED bulb in old round housing.
If any one know how to mod the factory equip fog lights on without the low beam on would be nice combination LED fog & DRL.

I drove at night with just fogs and was able to see pretty good. I did it on a road with no cars just to see how bright they were. And I have mine wired to a switch so I can turn them on without headlights. I do not have the oem stalk conversion setup.

Got mine installed...my mechanic swapped them out for me. They look great! The rectangular light output isn't an issue in person, and in fact even with the lights off these lamps look a little higher tech in the bumper.
They put out a lot of great light actually! Very happy with them. They match the HIDs well from the front, but the light output of the LEDs is a little bluer and crisper than the HIDs, not bothersome but I may upgrade to 5,000-6,000k HIDs at some point.
I think they're worth $250, for sure.
I'll post pictures.
