Arrow Steering wheel whine, dealer said its normal

Anyone else experience a whine or squeal when turning the wheel. Dealer said it was normal for the coil spring in the wheel on gs and es models. Having a hard time believing that's the case on a 60k car. Any suggestions?

Does it sound like a small series of gears rapidly rotating? If so that is the magnetic steering and is normal. Last car did that also and wasn't a Lexus. Nature of the tech.

I've never heard that. Ask to drive another vehicle on the lot and see if it does that too. Either the SA does t understand your issue or they are a lazy dealer. Hopefully it's the former.

Mine does that. It is sort of a squeak, especially when it is cold, or as cold as it gets in Tucson. I plan to have it checked.

There's a cable that's rubbing and it's not normal.... Mine got to the point where it was nearly all the time. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced the entire cable.
It's been silent ever since.

For sure you can tell the dealer you know others that don't have any issue. My steering is completely silent. A squeal like that would probably drive me nuts.

Great thing bout these forums is it's so easy to compare notes. Back in the days before the Internet if a dealer said this it would be a lot more difficult to push back.

Did they turn you away the first time or took care of it right away? Thanks for the reply

Take it back and have them rectify the problem, I had 2 GS F Sports and never heard a sound from the steering wheel.

To say steering wheel whine is normal is a ridiculous statement. That's a dealer who thinks you were born yesterday. Steering wheel whine is never normal on a passenger car. I had it on a GM SUV and I made 'em fix it. I insisted. They fixed it. The problem was the power steering thingy (I forget the exact name of the part). The vehicle was under warranty and was expensive to replace because of the positioning of the power steering thingy. They had to lower the engine to get to it, which is why they didn't want to replace it and tried to convince me it was "normal." Turns out it was happening to a healthy percentage of new vechicles of that year, all when under warranty. it cost GM a mint.

Steering should be completely silent, fellas, especially on a 60K car. Don't accept their bull***** that it's normal.

I tried to have them fix it earlier, but they couldn't hear the sound... I waited until I could replicate the noise for the dealer and took their mechanic for a quick drive so he could hear it. Once he heard it, they took care of it without any fuss.
