Decision Time: Keep 2013 F Sport or trade for 2015?
Anybody had both at this point? The 2015 fixes the very few things I don't like about my car, mostly the flimsy trunk lid (fixed by the power option) and the XM-dependent nav, but I was looking at one this week and found myself thinking: "This is what I already have!"
Thoughts? How does the 8 speed trans compare to the 6 speed in my car? That's the only material change I see.
Oh...and I'm not even slightly interested in the GS F, btw.

The other two positives are folding mirrors and the availability of Atomic Silver (if you like that color). Re: the 8 speed vs. 6 speed, read Rominl's post...

Trade it in for a new one. No repairs and maintenance and u'll have a warranty again.

>You mentioned the power trunk lid, and I don't think that is standard either.
Not standard but in the configurator, $400. The single worst thing about my car is the stupid trunk lid, which has damn near knocked me out blowing closed in a light wind. This in a $58,617 car? If I keep it I will find a way to fix it. Probably springs from a 90s Buick or something equally crude.
>Re: the 8 speed vs. 6 speed, read Rominl's post...
I did, interesting...here it is:
"i agree the 8-speed is not really a smart move on the gs350. the engine just doesn't have enough low end tq to allow the 8 speed to in higher gears and lower rpm. the 8 speed programming isn't responsive either, so it's harder to get it to down shift and get back on power band. compared to my 08 gs350 and 13 gs350 with 6 speed, those cars feel more responsive and able to get on it easier."
Anyone else have thoughts about this?

Yeah...I love new but I'm also doing a $15-18K drivetrain swap in a '98 M3 sedan I have; I don't absolutely have to choose between that and getting a 2015 GS, but it all seems a bit much to do both at once.

I would wait until we see what the refreshed GS looks like. The GS-F gives us an idea, but I wouldn't make a swap now until I knew what the refreshed 350 was going to bring to the table. Worst case scenario you won't like the refresh and can score an even better deal on a 2015.
All in all, the 2015 is basically the same car with a few upgrades. I wouldn't take the financial hit to trade out of an owned 2013 and buy a 2015. If you lease and can do the swap thats another matter.

So you want to put a new down payment and have higher monthly payments just so you can have folding mirrors and a power trunk ?? How lazy have people become that folding mirrors is a criteria to trade in and get the same exact car. Just get your butt out and fold it man lol.
I dont have self folding mirrors or a power trunk on my 2014 GS either, big whoopdyy dooo
Im busting your ***** a bit, dont take offense
But seriously, here is my friendly advice. If you like the GS that much to want to trade it in for practically the same exact car, why don't you just use that money to bring down your loan on the '13 GS and pay the car off in a few years ?? And it will be yours. Also Lexus keeps its value, so even if you change your mind you can always sell it private party and get most if not all your money back. You might even make a profit. Unless you like pissing your money away, trading a '13 for a '15 is a not a smart proposition in my opinion. Also i prefer your 6 speed transmission to the 8 speed that i have. The downshifts are lazy that why unless im coasting on the highway, i throw it in manual mode and change my own gears.

>Well with the trunk they revised something cause the trunk closes perfect without knocking you in the head like the 2013 did.
Really! I have a dealer appointment for something else on Friday; I will check this out. Be great if it were just heavier springs or something else easily swapped in
>Worst case scenario you won't like the refresh and can score an even better deal on a 2015.
Good point. It's very likely I won't like the refresh as I really dislike the full spindle grill; I think the current car's styling is spot on. Chances are either my current car or a 2015 will be my last Lexus product until they either dump the spindle or figure out how to apply it in a way that doesn't remind me of a monster truck tire.

No offense taken, but just to be clear, I couldn't care less about either "convenience feature"; what I care about is that the trunk lid on my car is actually dangerous and should have been recalled. Three different dealers have told me there is no fix and that they are "all like that."
>Also i prefer your 6 speed transmission to the 8 speed that i have. The downshifts are lazy that why unless im coasting on the highway, i throw it in manual mode and change my own gears.
This is important to me; I'll drive a 2015 and see if I feel the same way. That would pretty much end the argument.

Sorry, but I NEVER had an issue with the trunk on my '13 GS F Sport. I learned the first time I washed the back window that it would spring up and trap my hand (ouch!) so I needed to be careful and from then on it was all good. I would have never traded just to get a power trunk. Maybe for Atomic Silver, but not a power trunk.
As others have said, save your money and see what the '16 model brings to the table.

My trunk opens kinda stupid, but dangerous?!? It would never even occur to me that it was dangerous...
