Dissapointed in build quality.

Aside from the seatbelt hitting the b pillar I'm rattle free. But fwiw I'm coming from an 18 yr old bmw where silence usually meant something is wrong lol so I'm of no assistance.

Actually not. I've had my car for 13 months and 8,000 miles and I hear the occasional rattle from the passenger side seatbelt but that's it. And I live in the Dallas Metroplex where the irregular roads and potholes are the worst. I am very picky about rattles, etc, which is why I never drive our G37 Convertible. I'm disappointed in the build quality of that car. The GS, not at all.

I had a pretty bad rattle that I thought was coming from the moonroof, but it ends up it was the something loose in the windshield. The service specialist or w.e. they are called ( the techs that fix new car rattles), got rid of the problem real quick and I haven't had any other rattles since. I was actually pretty much on the edge of selling the car. It was driving me insane.

What bothers me with this posting is there are a number of people here with the same complaints, which to me legitimizes a problem that does not exist for me, at the moment, knock on wood, 2665 miles(other than seat belt B pillar). I am one that hears everything, my wife, on the other hand, is oblivious.
I have found, with the last two cars I have owned, Subaru Legacy GT and Porsche Cayman, it was the owners club that found the rattles and squeaks and the solutions. Both those cars had notorious rattles, Subaru-drivers side A pillar; Porsche-B pillar both sides. It was the owners club that found the defect that Subaru corrected and Porsche did not.

The firmer suspension places a higher load on the structure which causes it flex slightly. When you attach plastic parts to the flexing structure they collide and make noises. If this car had a softer suspension it wouldn't have as many interior squeaks. I've noticed this on vehicles after installing firmer suspension springs. To make the unibody more rigid would require additional metal. This would lead to a higher vehicle weight. Dampening the interior pieces with additional sound insulation would also increase mass. Everything is a trade off.

different people will have varying tolerances to noise on a car based on many varying factors. the only way we can see if the noise level is comparable among different vehicles is through a little bit of testing.
we should run an app and compare decibel (dB) tests over various roads and post the findings here.

my car was relatively quiet when i got it, there was a slight ticking from the navi screeen, i even heard it when i test drove the car.
i then starting getting the ticking sounds coming from the doors, very faint, but around the 3k mile mark it started.
then at around 5k mark, door ticks started getting louder, and the b pillar started, and whatever noise is coming back from the back seat.
i know it's partly due to the stiff suspension of the f-sport.
either way, all cars i've owned, i would always drive w music on.
last night and this morning i put on some music at around 25 volume, nothing too crazy, and thoroughly enjoyed the car. didn't hear anything, and had a nice drive from work and to work.
i'm hesitant to take it to dealer because i know they won't be able to fix it, too many noises from too many places and i know them not being able to fix it will egg me on to take further action, and i don't have the patience or time for that unfortunately. :-/
solution - turn music on, enjoy the car. you know, i got the ML system for a reason.

14,000 miles here and I am very happy with the car. Very quiet now after they tightened the subframe bolts on the rear underbody of the car that was leading to the "popping" sounds over the bumps and driveways. The car is tomb like on the highways with my F-sport suspension and michelin primacy MXM4 tires. Its quieter than my 2012 Audi A8L!!!! Thats enough said.

I have noticed when my wife pulls out of our driveway and onto the road both axles make an audible and concerning clunk as they cross the curb. Our driveway has a noticeable grade sloping to the road. Additionally, the 2GR-FSE does have a noise that is not unlike a sewing machine (valve chatter?) something the trusty 2GR-FE does not have. No matter, I do not hear these noises in the cabin.
So the interior noise level is very low and there are no rattles that I can detect. The exterior noise levels seem to be higher than I had expected and at times raises some concern
