Why is 15k service so expensive for 2013 GS350?
Hello all,
This is my first post on the Lexus Forum and I am seeking some advice from other Lexus owners on maintaining their 2013 GS350. I am due for a 15k service and the dealership where I leased the car tells me that this service runs $240? I looked at the maintenance schedule in the manual and I am thinking "$240 for topping off fluids and inspections?". The funny thing is we called 4 other lexus dealers and we received quotes as high as $450! Than we called a toyota dealer and they wanted $140 for this....so my question is twofold: why is this service so expensive and do you take your lexus to Toyota for routine services?
Thanks for your help today.....

Maybe not a bad idea....I have always thought its a good idea to have the car looked over periodically just to make sure all is ok. It just seems silly to me that this kind of service is priced the way it is. When we called different lexus dealerships the prices ranged from $235-$435 for the SAME service. Seems a little silly right?

They do more than you think. They change the in-cabin air filter and lubricate many points. It is a $55K car so why not let the specialists service the car then your value is higher for having the car dealer maintained and there is nothing that will go unchecked.

I think its time for you to find a good independent mechanic who is familiar with Lexus vehicles. The dealers are nice, and the service is excellent, definitely a premium experience but IMHO, the cost is just too high. I'll get the free ones done and take it back to my guy at 15k.
Its a $55,000 car but its not so complicated an exotic a car that an independent mechanic can't change the oil and rotate the tires.

Having the dealership do your maint can have added benefits if something goes wrong and you're just out of warranty as Lexus may be more apt to cover it.
We insisted that our dealer include the genuine national Lexus prepaid premium maint plan as part of our deal.

I always felt the same way, but I haven't had any issues getting warranty work done since I started using the independent mechanic.
And you have to ask yourself how much is that potential benefit worth? Considering my mechanic might charge me $50 for that 15k service (maybe $80 if he had to change he cabin air filter) and his dealer wants to charge him $240, if you add that up over the length of the warranty its considerable.

$240 is nothing to me for servicing. Sorry. Its not that expensive. I would say 350 or more is too much.
I just do oil-change every 5k,
Change the air filter yearly
Balance wheel/tires every year without rotation
Brake fluid change every 2 years
Change my transmission fluid at 60,000 miles

An oil change with tire rotation is around $140 I believe. After the freebie,I do my own oil changes, air and cabin filter changes.
I only go to the dealer for warranty issues.I have a local shop that does my other work needed.
I don't need the free coffee and muffins for double+ the cost of service.

At my dealer we charge $144.88 plus tax, but we also added in wiper inserts, key battery, and a/c filter replacement in addition to what Lexus has in the manual.
I hate to say it, but $244.00 sounds a bit high...
