Default Possibly Purchasing 2013 GS - BUT SNOW!!

Hey everybody!

My name is Adam, and I live in Baltimore, MD. I drive a 2007 Volvo S60R 6-Speed and I it's my love.

Anyway, that's beside the point. My father is in the market for a new car, and the GS350 is currently the front runner (cross-shopping Audi A6 3.0, Infiniti M37, and VW Toureg TDi) . He currently drives a 2007 BMW X3, which now has ~115K. To say the least, ownership has been expensive with repairs and whatnot. Realizing that he hasn't had luck with American or German, he wants to try something new.

However, he is apprehensive about the GS350's ability in the snow (the AWD model, obviously). While Maryland isn't nearly as snowy as many places in America, it is beneficial that he be able to drive in blizzard-like conditions due to his line of work. The X3 (with winter tires) is a monster in the snow, and while the Lexus is probably not going to be as good (due to height), how do these do in the snow?

On a side note - this is the exact one we're considering. While new is what he would usually go for, this seems like it may be too good to pass up, especially with the CPO Warranty.

Thanks!

I've driven in the snow for the past 15 years (Toronto) and feel that my GS350 AWD is definitely good enough to handle the winters and the snow, even with the all-seasons. I wouldn't have any hesitation to recommend him moving from the X3 to this.

The height wasn't an issue this year, even with the large amount of snow we had. Keep in mind the AWD sits higher than the RWD. While the Infiniti EX35 is more of a "car" and less of a truck than the X3, they're in the same class. And I can confidently say that my GS350 seems to drive better than my wife's EX35.

i personally haven't had any probs with my AWD GS350 F Sport in the snow... if i were him i would go for it. at the end of the day it's his decision. or he could look into a CPO 2013 RX350 AWD, if there are any.

It's fine in the snow. Get proper winter tires.

Haven't experienced any issues with my AWD GS350 either. It's my daily driver and it snows from Oct-May where I live.

Here's what I thought of the GS 350 AWD in the snow:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...s-350-awd.html

You may be closer to Bobby Rahal Lexus in Mechanicsburg, PA. They have a low mileage 2013 GS 350 with the Luxury Package. It's listed for roughly the same amount as the model you posted which does not have the Luxury Package.

Yeah I had doubt's as well and I asked the same question, We are getting piled with snow right now and I can say it's working just as it should. I still think the Germans have a better AWD system but I'm not slipping everywhere it's holding it's ground.

I have not driven mine in the snow, since our "blizzard" this week was such a fake out DC has become a national joke, for reasons other than the typical ones!

In our area, its going to be fine I'm sure. We so rarely get any significant snow, whats the point in driving a vehicle that you compromise 99% of the time for that 1% of the time when it snows? In fact, I wanted a RWD GS but they don't sell them in our region.

Snow tires are also a waste in our area...

I dont know if anybody noticed on the web, for the Lexus that Mr. Volvo posted, the dealer posted 3.4 engine size, for the GS350, hello , u are a delaer and u dont know the car, I thought that was funny.lol. but anyways thats a good choice of a car, ur headaches will be way less than a BMW, and dont even think abt VW.good luck.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure he is going to purchase a GS350 as it is seemingly not a mess in the snow.

Also, we called about a week back about the one at Rahal - someone apparently jumped on that one before we did - it had already sold. I'm not too sure why it's still on the website!

We're going to take a look at this one on Monday - it's a little higher miled than the one at Wilkie, but it's in Maryland, and it's nearly $5,000 less!

The AWD in snow with winter tires is awesome! I am very impressed with the GS as always in the snow. I rather drive this car then my audi quattro.

Be careful over at Lexus of Silver Spring. They like to list their CPO inventory as non-certified so the prices are low. Then when you get there and you realize it they offer to certify the car for you for several thousand dollars more.

Thanks - as it turns out, that one is apparently already sold as well!

It right now is between buying the CPO at Wilkie Lexus in PA, or buying a new one at Lexus of Towson. The quote they gave at Towson seems like it may actually be worth buying new.
