Its a different world today than it was when the 2GS was out.
I'm going to partially conflict my earlier post. Ever since this thread popped up I've been keeping an eye out for the latest 5-series. And I've kept count.

4 550s
1 535
2 528s

My neighbourhood/commute is probably not typical of North America, but I think it says something. Maybe V8 enthusiasts are defecting to BMW from other brands? I do have to say though that previously I only saw 535s, so maybe all these new 550 guys are some kind of a winter phenomenon. They've parked their Lambos and Ferraris for the winter?

BMW has the most aggressive lease rates.. (hard to resist compared to other luxo brand)

If you look at sales figures though, they don't support your visual experience. The % of E's and 5's that are V8s is very slim.

Regardless of the small numbers though, I still believe Lexus should release a V8 version for the 4th generation model (if not >500 hp GS-F, then at least a GS460 or a GS500)

Not everyone wants to move up to the LS just to get an eight cylinder vehicle

Personally, I'm not a V8 fan; I found the previous GS460 V8 reasonably powerful, and very smooth, but too nose heavy, and I wish they would stop deliberately detuning the engine such that it loses dozens of horsepower compared to the LS.
If the previous GS460 had the same horsepower as the LS, the GS460 would have been a rocketship.

In any case, engineering a V10, V12, or V16 would be a lot of work and cost.
However, the V8 engine is already there in the Lexus line up, so it shouldn't be too much work, and it shouldn't be too much cost, to fit the V8 into a GS, and re-tune the suspension for a heavier front end...

Sorry for the four month bump but:

Any word yet on an Eight Cylinder engine for the 4th generation Lexus GS?

Anything? A GS460? a GS500 F-sport? or a GS-F (>500 HP)???

Any news, insider info or rumors?

Nothing has happened. No new rumors of the GS-F, either.

I still think Lexus deliberately torpedoed the V8 option last gen. They weakened it to the point where it was slower than the hybrid (-40HP from the normal HP of the V8).
