A Lexus GS-F that only targets against the Audi S6 is not gonna cut it in my opinion.

Otherwise, Lexus should just call it a GS500 F-sport instead.

A TRUE 4th Generation Lexus GS-F would have AT LEAST 500 HP in order to compete in a league that has competitors such as Audi RS6, BMW M5, MB E63 AMG, Jaguar XFR, etc.

Anyways, I'm still hoping that Lexus will release a V8 engine for the 4th generation GS =)

I agree that Lexus needs to make it at least 500hp but wouldnt that be the same hp as the LFA. I think that the price will be close with the German's but they also have to make sure the price isn't crazy which I think would turn buyers away. I think 80K is a reasonable assumption. 100K and it would be around the German's so many would say why not get one of the German cars. I think it will be 10K less than German's. Can't we just flood emails to Lexus stating how many people want a V8, or even more hp.

it will sell, but i am not sure if it will be significant though. if lexus cares about sales and don't want to upset the EPA regulations down the road, i can see why gs500 is omitted. but still should just have a gsf to play with the big dogs

lfa is 552, but then again i don't see the relationship. i don't see why lfa has to have the most hp so to speak. just look at the sls vs sl65. both m5 and e63 are into 100k already, so 10k and it will be 90k for gsf

+1

This is my take also, why can't they have the ***** to put out a V8 on their top models regardless of sales figures, isn't selling cars to car enthusiast about building relationships? I mean if they don't make money on us buying a GS500, but they will make money on our family members buying an LS, ES, and IS. The LFA isn't for profit so why not a V8 GS to complement the LS. Though, the GS350 is okay for most people, but if you like V8's, you only have two choices LS or ISF, there's no middle car?!

My only reason is based on the price those who purchased had to pay, but then again it doesnt really matter.Yeah you are right, on the 90k so yeah it could be around that vs the 80k I was thinking, but first they need to make it.

Because they've done it before and it hasn't been successful. Its not like Lexus has never had a V8 in the GS and we're hoping they will put one in, they had a V8 for years and sales were very poor. They also have the hybrid now and in their mind, that replaces the V8.

Its like a manual. They have done manuals before, and they haven't been successful.

They're not going to take the CAFE hit if the car isn't going to sell.

interesting point. too bad we will never know, but i wonder if there are solid numbers on the gs300 vs gs400/430 (2gs) sales and then gs300/350 vs gs430/460 (3gs). i personally see more v8 2gs than v8 3gs overall. my feeling is because gs460 is a little underpowered for what it was. if it had 380hp like that in the ls460, it might be more attractive

It would be nice to have V8 as a
custom order option, at least.
Then sales wouldn't be affected
and customers would be happy.

it's more complicated than that.

cost will be affected because production line will be affected with a different engine setup and all the corresponding harnesses, ecu, transmission, etc...

I get your point. But with today's robotics,
I find it hard to believe it would be that difficult.
Same car, different parts, quick plug ins,
and dropping an engine and transmission
on a line takes little time. Ths vette changes
parts, engines, tranmissions frequently
in production.

I agree as I have seen a couple of GS 430's 2003-05' models but I rarely see a GS 460 and a GS 430 2006-07. I think that the HP was a little on the conservative side when they built them. I'm pretty sure if the GS 460 had what the BMW 550 has which is 400hp it would have the backing, but as usual Lexus chooses the conservative way. Look at our current GS they went from 303hp to 306hp wow what a jump! they could have done better and still retained the gas mileage numbers.

True, but I don't a GS has ever deserved a V8 more than this one. The 3GS was exactly a driver's car and this 4GS is a class leader. Also, I do see more GS400s than 300s. I think that speaks to that gen of the GS more than the market for it.
