But thats exactly our point, in this day and age you don't have nothing, you have a cell phone as do any passengers you have with you.

If it was just you out there and no cell phones that would be different...

This service would be WORTHLESS, since it too depends on having cellular coverage - CDMA, I believe.

I can't recall ever being in the conditions you describe...the only thing that would help there would be a satellite phone.

This service operates via a built-in CDMA phone, and it has to be active regardless of your service status, since they can get you activated without physically having access to the car. You can't turn it off by unplugging something, otherwise somebody who would steal it would just have to "cut the wire", rendering the lost vehicle recovery service worthless.

I believe pressing the SOS button WILL get you to a person...though they may want your credit card number before providing service.

Imagine the PR disaster if somebody pushed the SOS for a life or death situation, and they didn't answer because the bill wasn't paid.

I know that there used to be an FCC rule that even a phone that was not activated through a carrier, had to be given a connection to call 911.

I tried it in my ES after the subscription ended. The SOS button got me a recording saying the service was not activated. No person.

I don't use Enform at all. Never had a need for it.

Safety connect however, is something I'd like to keep.

Worthless?? If Lexus uses the exact same lousy AT&T line I already have in my phone...than, maybe. but i strongly doubt that. More chances I cover more territory than I would with my cell phone alone. But why arguing this?

Its CDMA, not GSM like your AT&T phone. If you have lousy coverage from AT&T, why not devote the $250 a year to getting better cell service?

Its just using cell territory, so if you are somewhere that there is no CDMA service...no Enform.

You should know that it doesn't take more money to get a "better" coverage. And AT&T is not cheap by any means. These cellphone services are similarly priced. I have AT&T for reasons that are not necessary to report here.

Chances are that if I don't get connected with one devices I may get connected with the other one, or both or nothing...but i still have more chances than i would with just one!

You're the one who said your AT&T service was poor, not me!

Verizon or Sprint gets you the same CDMA coverage Enform has. Verizon is indeed a little more expensive.

Yep. I have very very little connection at work. Unfortunately I can't fit the car into the office to fix that problem.

-last time I checked my plan as it is, it's about the same of a similar Verizon plan-but I get unlimited data.
Good night!

Strange...my 2007 LS460 worked every time I punched the wrong button when trying to open my garage door. Always got a helpful, courteous Lexus person asking me what was the trouble and how could they help. The service was never activated after the original subscription ran out either by the original owner or by me (it was a CPO I bought in 2009 with 18k miles). Mebbe it used to depend on the model you bought.

I still don't quite believe a car company would refuse to answer an emergency call initiated in one of its vehicles by pressing a big red "SOS" button! Every lawyer in Christendom would be salivating at the prospect...

Somehow you must have had a subscription to the safety connect and not realized it. The previous owner might have bought a multi-year subscription.

Lexus/Toyota should charge a fee for each request for info if you don't buy the subscription.
