Default Why are Lexus key fobs so freakin' big?

We own two Lexii in the family - a 2013 GS350 AWD and a 2013 RX450h. Therefore two key fobs. The Rx450h is the slightly older style which is a bit smaller than the fob for the GS350. But both of these on your key ring and you have quite a load to carry around. I could be wrong but the new fob doesn't appear to contain a metal key that you can detach from the rest of the fob - so why is it so big? I remember Nokia selling a cell phone a decade ago that was no bigger than this key fob.

If you are wearing a pair of jeans and have the key ring in your jeans plcket then it could lead to an uncomforable situation "Do you have two Lexus keypads in your pocket or are you just glad to see me".

You can always buy this for $258.

It shows up as $348 for me - the same price as an iPad mini which is kind of crazy.

It would be nice if you could just "transfer" the SmartAccess settings to your phone so that it could act as your key, and do so for multiple vehicles. And/or that card should work for multiple cars so that you only need one smart card for two or more cars.

The wallet key sucks anyway. I have it, and half the time it doesn't work unless I hump the door with my wallet in my front pocket.

....Which sometimes I do in public anyway.

Battery low?
The battery is said to last about 6 months in that wallet key fob.

Create an account on Sewell Lexus site. CL members get a discount.

I really don't understand the issue with the fob. I've never felt it was an issue at all. Then again...I'm not wearing my girlfriends jeans either.

Checked it... its been that way since day one. Not a big deal to me anyway. I should just list it here and sell it.

What you think this key is bad, have you had the new BMW smart keys they are huge. These keys are heavier then ours as well.

We do have a metal key insert, there is a button on the side of it.

Neither am I, my wife disapproves of it.

I think the key fob is large. I also think the buttons should be shaped differently so you can identify the specific button by feel (like the BMW key fob shown above).
