Vinyl overlay on Sun Visors (Airbag sticker cover up)
I thought I would start this thread because I was looking all over for people that did this or have done this and found a bunch of random things out there. Plus ideas are always good to have.
I hunted around and found Matt over at MotoGFX (www.motogfx.com) and had him make me some custom logos for my visor to cover up those airbag logos. I did my homework about the different types of adhesive and I agree 3M is the best out there for wrapping a car but pricey for just the visor, so I went with ORACAL adhesive (and if/when you talk with Matt, he knows his stuff).
These stick REALLY well and aren't cheesy at all (not your cheap stickers...totally custom and Matt has all the custom logos here that I uploaded for him to use).
So I ordered both white and gray (to match my paint = ANTHRACITE) so it would look just like the little airbag logo right next to the visor on the pillar of the car...(trying to match things instead of making them stand out). I ended up going with the matte black with the gray on top. These are two stickers because the gray (ANTHRACITE) would get washed out if you did it all in one sticker and this way I could match the gray of my car to a "T". Did I say Matt is great at this...so you can trust him
Here is what I used:
1) little squeegee to get all the bubbles out (the best i could) - I am not a pro at this, but got it pretty darn close to perfect.
2) Lint roller - rolled this over the sticker to get the link off before I put the sticker on
3) alcohol wipe - to clean the sticker first
4) a steady hand...lol...
The size of the logos are as follows:
#1 The long logo warning is 5" x 1 3/8" = when the visor is up (normal drive mode)
#2 The box like one on the inside is 5 5/8" x 2 5/8" = when visor is down
** You can see from the logos that I might have gone with 1/16th of an inch bigger on all sides just because you can see a small piece of the old sticker - I will try a fine tip marker to cover it up though - more to come on that, but those are the measurements that I took and you can see from the pictures that your mileage will vary **
So here are some photos (mind you these are night shots in my garage so the clarity with the flash isn't the greatest...but in person they are spot on)...
Stage 1 of the stickers:
Stage 2 of the stickers:
Peeling off to reveal the matte black color (it matches the black really well):
#1 Logo - Old
#1 Logo - New (metallic gray to match paint)
#2 Logo - Old
#2 Logo - New (you can see the little bit of the clear portion of the old logo)
Airbag Color Match (which is close to my paint color also)
I will take more photos during the day, but wanted to get this posted to share with everyone...
** Next will be the painting of the calipers and I got more vinyl from Matt to do this also **
Enjoy,
---Mike

I don't remember the exact cost...but reach out to Matt at http://www.motogfx.com because he was the one I worked with to create this design. We took the "new" F-Sport logo into consideration here and not the older one.
I also got my caliper stickers from him also and I think everything (including a few extra stickers) cost me:
Visor stickers (front and rear + extras), Caliper stickers (front and rear + extras) = about $35-$40 I think.
Super inexpensive and high quality...He is a super good guy and I would use him over and over again.
I hope that helps.

If you're good with an exacto and a ruler, you can cut them yourself; thanks for the idea. I have some spare black vinyl leftover that I just used on my motorcycle tank
