Default My DIY tow hook license plate for 2013 GS

Hello, here are pictures of my DIY license plate holder using the tow hook. I didn't want to drill any holes in my bumper but in CA and especially my area the cops are on top of it. I wanted something that I could put on and take off when I go to the track or shows. So I decided to get a tow hook lic. holder. I search around and the asking price was $70- 100. So I decided to make my own. I didn't want to hack away my tow hook so I went to the junk yard and found a tow hook with the right pitch thread which came off from the 3rd Gen GS. The next day I went to my friends shop and had him cut and weld a long nut. Next door to his shop was a hardware store so I picked up a long plate and had him cut it to the size of the license plate. The total I spent was only $10.

Tow hook that I found in the junk yard

Painted black. Top tow hook is from the 4th Gen GS

Pre check Assembled before I painted it blk.

Nice job. I have been trying to do the same thing after seeing the same product on Stillen.com.
I never thought of going to the junk yard to find a tow hook. I was thinking of modifying the
tow hook that came with the car. I will probably order one from the dealer. Thanks for the post.

It was a little crooked when i took the picture but it doesn't block the fogs or even the sensor on the bumper go on.

Nice job. My car, unfortunately, was already drilled.

If I was gonna run a front plate I would prefer it in the middle, having it on the side just looks weird to me. But everyone has their preferences! Some guys in Oakland like to put whistles in their tailpipes. "Woot Woot"

there's a reason i have it on the side.

1. Don't want to drill any holes
2. the tow hook is on the side
3. if i was going to put it in the middle using the tow hook it would block one of the sensor in the middle.

looks good to me!

Us Californian's are ticketed for not having plates so I would understand why this would be done.

However, I myself am running without plates
*knocks on wood*

However, on a new car you shouldn't have too much of a hard time getting away with no License Plate

I get you for sure. I personally would have it in the center, but I don't run a front plate so I guess it really doesn't matter what I think, lol

Right now the tow hook holder is not on. I have a couple of months until I have to put it on. Knowing my luck if I don't have it on I'll get a ticket. In all my cars I owned I have been pulled over for no lic plate. Every time I got pulled over the fine would increase on me so I gave up. plus my car won't look stock once I'm done with it
