Default Is Imitation The Best Form Of Flattery???

I just received an email from Nissan ( not sure why) advertising the new 2013 Nissan Altima.

Is it just me or does the front end of the Altima appear to closely resemble the spindle front grill of the 4G / ES?

ohh god. You're absolutely right. It sure does resemble the spindle grill.

I wondered if it was just me. I saw a commercial last night and couldn't believe how much the grill looked like a new GS.

That car looks awful. Too many lights.

Lexus didn't make spindles - but Toyota made looms. Close enough, I guess .

The Altima has ripped the GS the past 2 generations. Part of its success is "looking" like a GS or taking cues from it, even the interior. It is what it is. The GS has always been influential in design. The first generation Altima took inspiration from the old Infiniti J30.

I see some GS in the front but overall it looks like a M37/56 but better. Its a sharp looking car to me, the new Altima.

I think we will see the spindle grill become widely copied. Whenever there is a unique design element on a higher end car, every one else, especially the mainstream models, will try and copy it to seem more high end.

Somewhat similar, but slightly. I do like the new altima though. But give it a year or two and you will see those on the road, everywhere.

This Altima is going to sell well. The rear looks quite nice (I see Maxima and Kizashi), and while the front lights are busy, it's generally not a bad design. With the Fusion, Sonata, Optima, new Accord, and new Altima coming out this year, Toyota is may have some trouble maintaining its position in sales. I know plenty of people who will continue to buy Camry's because of what they are, and past experience... but I know more than a few people who have considered the others recently who were long-time Camry purchasers.

Some of the lines on the Altima are very similar, but the GS is still a giant leap ahead...some screenshots here from Lexus.com and NissanUSA.com, the GS looks much more fierce in my opinion...

Although, we all know, that GS has been lowered for that shot...or photo-shopped to create the aggressive stance.
