Actual question, do you have one in the chamber when it's mounted in the car?
Always have one in the chamber or don't bother carrying at all.

So much this. I don't understand when people think they're gonna have time to chamber a round because most situations when they go bad they go bad fast.

Also this is counter-intuitive but I am more mellow and less likely to get into a conflict when I carry. Why do you ask?

Because when you carry and you get into a conflict, it escalates really quickly to where you don't want to be. I have many times stepped away from conflicts because I know if I get into the fight, I'd have no choice but to escalate. But it isn't for everyone.

This hits the nail on the head. I carry and train with all my guns as well as the knife and BJJ. Best thing to do is avoid having to use any of it at all and either de-escalate or just walk away because when **** goes south it often goes south too fast with almost no coming back from it.

I'm going to assume no one here is carrying 1911s then!

Reason I ask - mere curiosity, due to the risk of a car mounted gun being obtained/AD by a passenger/child, I've read that happens alot there. I was surprised to read this but I guess everyone's scenario is different. I have 2 new babies so firearms storage is back on my mind, I'm thinking of bringing my rifle back home but moving pistols to offsite storage. For the record I agree EDC full loaded, either be fully prepared or don't bother!

I use to carry a 1911. I stopped for 2 reasons. 1) It's heavy and 2) I don't like manual safeties.

I'm going to get one next year because they're beautiful to fire(so crisp!) but one would need to really practice the draw hundreds of times if used for self defense...

They come in so many flavors and manufacturers with varying degrees quality. So buyer beware of the jamomatic 1911. LOL

You have to be very mellow if you have a CCL. Not sure how it is in all states but in many states/classes they are telling people who carry to avoid conflicts/fights at all costs or it could mean you lose the ability to legally carry, could face harsher charges, etc. If you are the type of person who gets into fistfights/confrontations that often need to be broken up by police/authorities over parking spaces, lines, road rage, bar fights etc whether you started it or not etc and you have a history of that it could be what puts an end to you legally carrying your firearm/obtaining a license. Basically walk away and avoid all confrontations if you carry and want to be able to carry in the future.

If you ever decide to pull the trigger you better be damn sure it is absolutely necessary and a legally responsible action to take...because once that primer detonates there's no putting that bullet back into the barrel.

When I need to reference my manual on jack locations because my tire is flat, I can't exactly run home and get the manual. Later in this thread though someone mentioned the online resource, so I guess it becomes irrelevant to have physical access to the book. I simply prefer to keep the manual with the car, but I appreciate the creativity on storage solutions.

This thread has been an interesting read.

I put my manual in the little storage area under the trunk floor to the left.
