Infotainment Screen Upgrade
I am extremely glad that I found this forum. I am thinking of buying the same car you have (2016, GS200t) and I noticed it had the smaller screen. It is cheaper than the rest on the market and has lower mileage so it makes sense to go for it but I just can't get over wanting the bigger screen. I have been searching everywhere trying to find out if it is even possible to install the larger OEM screen and if it would cost an arm and a leg to do so. So where can I go to find the 12.3" screen and a nav head unit and how much would they cost to buy and install (roughly)?
Cost for me was about $1,800. I paid a little more for a good condition screen. On the radio the ask was $1,600ish but I offered $800 and it was accepted. I bought the plastic surround directly from a Lexus dealer online, Bell Lexus, it was around $80 new.
Install is fairly easy, there are plenty of GROM or BeatSonic installation videos on YouTube that cover the removal of the screen and radio to get you on the right track. I would imagine an installer would be around a couple hundred dollars.
Even though I already had screen mirroring, I actually like the factory system. Full screen carplay/AA options are available but I like the stability of the factory system or screen mirroring.
Thank you for your response. $1800 doesn't sound bad at all considering I will be saving money going for this model rather than a car with the screen already built in. I looked at car-part.com from your earlier response but I could not figure out what the parts where called for me to search for them. I found the screen on eBay but it was very pricey at around $2500.
It sounds like you installed it yourself. Would you say the install would be rather straight-forward for someone with no experience doing this kind of stuff?
Also, another concern I have been having is the computer/electric malfunctions that might arise from switching the screen. Have you faced anything like that? I also want the factory system; the navigation screen looks really nice especially at night.

The 12.3 plastic screen surround is part# 5542130100
The current 2020 NAV map SD card is part: PT219GEN0920. You don't need this but I wanted the latest since the maps that came with the radio were from 2016.

Also there are the basics of working with electronics such as not shorting any wires, tugging too hard on the harnesses, taking photos of everything before you disconnect, using a magnet tool to remove and insert bolts to not lose them and to not overtighten interior bolts and screws.
if installed properly there is no risk of malfunction since its OEM parts the car was designed for.
Everything is a simple plastic clip harness connector except for that main pin harness which is not 100% foolproof. With zero experience, I would tread carefully considering how expensive some of the parts are.
Here's a couple videos I found helpful, but there are likely more:
Here's a screen I found for $800. The plastic protector is cracked but you may be able to find a cheap pre-2016 screen to just get the plastic for it. The new price of that plastic is over $500.

Keep searching everyday and search separately for the terms. For example: 2016 Lexus GS350 Screen, then 2017 Lexus GS350 Screen, then 2018 Lexus GS350 screen. Interchange GS350 for GS200t as well since many 200ts came with the larger screen. Same goes for the radio. The radio I got was listed under GS200t so I would have never would have found it if I was searching for GS350. As time passes you will get fatigued and the search for the ultimate deal may waver. I decided it was worth it to settle paying a bit more for one that I know has a return policy and good high resolution photos showing any potential imperfections. In the end I saved over 10K on my non-nav 200t vs. a GS350 so its still a good value and a worthy upgrade, which may also affect the resale value when it comes times to sell.
Always make sure you obtain the VIN for the donor vehicle and verify the year using the Lexus driver's site or app. I have seen some 2015 radios advertised as working on 2016+ when that is not true. Make sure the donor radio is out of a 2016 or 2017 and also verify the brown connector as I mentioned. The screen is fine from any 2016-2020.

Its straightforward and fairly simple once you watch a few videos but I have a couple decades experience of working on cars at an enthusiast's level. The main connector has fragile pins so you need to be careful when removing and inserting.

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it. I have already started looking for the ideal parts and will hopefully begin the process soon. I will keep you updated and will definitely be back with more questions hahaha.

Great info, I just got a 2015 with NAV and have been thinking about the CarPlay units when I read about the difference in the split screen of the 2013-2015 and 2016 on up. What are the other differences in the head unit and screen? Would not mind something with a faster more responsive processor.
