Does anyone know what the best way to route a wire through the steering column and up to the buttons on the steering wheel trim? I'm basically trying to add one of these buttons somewhere on the steering wheel. I was hoping the best place would be through where the clock spring connector is but that space is really tight. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I should probably mention that I will be running 12Vdc @ < 20mA so the wire gauge is extremely small. I am thinking whether I need a coiled wire instead of just adding extra wire compensate for the steering wheel motion.

 

whatever you do, don't let that wire get behind the clock spring because it will get tangled and it can get stuck and uncoil it. (happen to me before)

 

Yeah and that is exactly what I am trying to figure out. Thinking if I put in a really small wire gauge and put a bunch of slack in it... it should be fine.

 

Eddie - You may want to research these two Lexus clock springs - Part# 84307-30140 and Part# 84307-30150. It appears that these two clock springs have two extra wires in the ribbon cable when compared to the more common clock spring Part# 84307-30120 and Part# 84307-30130. Below are the four clock spring part numbers for the 4th Generation GS 350, which also fit some other Lexus brand models like the IS and RC.

Part# 84307-30140 (Has 2 extra wires) For GS 350 models w/ Heated Steering Wheel, Variable Steering & Pre-Collision
Part# 84307-30150 (Has 2 extra wires) For GS 350 models w/ Heated Steering Wheel, w/o Variable Steering and w/o Pre-Collision

Having a hard time figuring out which one to get. I currently have the one with the two air bag connectors.

I'm looking for the pre-collision one which has the third extra wire at the bottom left.



But pictures of 84307-30150 do not show this third wire.

What Lexus/Toyota vehicle model (and with what options) is the #84307-60110 for?

 

I told him I had a 2015 GS 350, AWD, F-Sport w/ LKA/LDW, w/ DRCC, w/ Heated Steering, with Dimpled Leather. He gave me part #84307-60110. I told him that does not make sense because the description states this is for 2016 and 2017. He's like "trust me, I have more info on my system that let's me choose all the options you have and this is the correct part". I'm ordering it but if it's not right, it's going straight back for a refund.

 

If it's not right you certainly don't want to throw it in a dark corner and keep it because those things aren't cheap...
