Default Eco mode is useless?!?!

At least that's what it feels like on my 2013 awd f sport. No matter the normal, sport, sport +, I'm still averaging 19-20 mpg. Anyone else like this or is something wrong? Or, eco mode has nothing to do with mpg?

Yes, about the same MPG all around for me too. I only use eco when I'm stuck in heavy traffic. Even that I don't see any difference in MPG, more of a placebo effect.

Yes it feel useless to me also, I put my car in eco mode to help me think I am saving on gas.

I never use eco mode. In traffic I just use normal mode because It upsets me to not have control of the throttle properly. Normal mode will toggle in and out of eco mode anyways if you decide to drive more conservatively.

Your driving style matters more than what mode you drive in. You can get decent mileage in Sport mode with a light foot, while worse mileage in Eco mode with a lead foot. I don't drive in Eco mode since the throttle response has more lag and the A/C is dialed back.

I'm on my 4th tank now since I got the car about 6-7 weeks ago and been experimenting per full tank between Eco and Sport+. Doesn't seem to be much difference, maybe less than 6-8 miles extra on Eco mode per full tank.

I use Eco mode quite a bit, mostly in stop and go traffic. I find it's a bit of a smoother throttle application. Any gains in mileage, if at all, are tiny. You will gain more by avoiding jack-rabbit starts than you will by driving in Eco all the time.

I feel like I'm not living if I don't do a "jack-rabbit start", haha.

I was driving around on eco and was thinking the same too much lag and pretty much same gas mileage.

I totally agree. My ECO mode could be broken and I'd never know it. I never use it - and don't need it.

Same here, I like the relaxed throttle response in traffic.

Agree that driving style is what dictates your gas mileage. ECO mode on its own will not help, it just makes it easier to "have a light foot" than in the sport modes.

Haven't noticed any significant MPG differences between the 3 modes but I do keep mine in ECO about 90% of the time. The acceleration lag makes the car feel smoother to me. In Normal, my car tends to have jerky downshifts/blips. I'm very light on the throttle. Maybe 'Normal' mode hasn't learned my driving behavior since I'm always in ECO? Does anyone know if the car's driving behavior 'learning' is exclusive to each mode or will it apply to all?

Never tried it. I use normal or Sport+ mode. ECO and Sport modes just get in the way.
