Great post Pete.

I agree with everything you said. Nobody said they look exactly alike but I guess its just weird with some of comments on here, makes you wonder why they are in a Lexus forum to begin with.

I have the Cabernet seats now and love them, but that new red is absolutely hideous.

Just drove a 2015 GS. Nice interior amenities. Putting it in sport + the acceleration is damn noisy. Choosing a long sweeping on ramp my wife hit the accelerator and I could literally hear the engine thrash and feel the transmission go through 1st gear...2nd gear, 3rd gear, 4th gear and we were at 70mph. This is Lexus? Once cruising it was quiet. I'm thinking they didn't put sound deadener on the transmission tunnel or engine fire wall. I was surprised being in the passenger seat how I could hear it. It was loud enough I asked if the engine sound was being pipped through the speakers. He said no.
By comparison our IS is a sewing machine and did not have the same oomph when it is in ECT mode which we leave on.
Drove the LS460. Didn't like the lag once you hit the accelerator and seemed it needed just a few more HP. Honestly the lag felt like a "turbo". Once it hit, then there was giddy up & go. MARVELOUS everything else. Unfortunately my wife didn't like it so big. It's a cavern inside! Love it!

Going back to drive a 2016 with a Cabernet interior

Well the sound is piped in. It's from a diaphragm on the intake leading into the firewall though. I love how it sounds. Different strokes for different folks.

The engine sound is amplified by the sound generator on the intake pipe. If u remove that then it'll be quiet.

As others have said, the GS has an intake sound generator which is what creates that engine sound.

No cabernet on the 2016 GS unfortunately.

We didn't have time to go back & drive the 2016.(I HATE waiting in pharmacy at the hospital!!) So is there a noise generator on the 2015?

Yes, the sound generator came out on the 2013, and they all have them including the 2016.

Ah, Thanks.

ItzFilyO

Nicely done on the pics. Understand better what it is. Thanks.

So these are removable and won't mess up the rock star hamster inside the engine?

No u can't just remove it, u need to replace the whole piping with the one that doesn't have a sound generator, like a K&N one.

It's funny how we go to K&N now for quietness and stay stock for more sound. It used to be the other way around.

You can also use the intake tube from the 3GS.
