Currently NO Toyota model shares a platform with the GS. Why do you think the GS is appreciably more expensive than the ES despite being about the same size? The ES enjoys considerable economy of scale in driving down its production costs.
Im confused, just cause the platform is different, the external body work cant be the same? WTF are you smoking lol

Again so emotional on a comment about how the design looks similar is silly. Its not my fault Toyota decided to incorporate the fierce design language of Lexus L-finesse into their Economy brand to spice things up.

I saw my cross street neighbor house with a camry and 4gs parked on the drive way. To be honest, GS is not that much better considering how more expensive it is. We all get a bit sensitive but that is the awful truth. The similarity is just a bit too much. It was dark and I actually questioned myself if that was a GS like the one I had Now once one sits inside and drives, the answer is clear. On a different note considering the new one, a friend of mine, a German lover, says he does not see the Camry in the new GS. Similar but the GS is a way better design esp. the F Sport. The design lines are much better, he says.

I find that some overseas Camries on the internet look not bad at all.

Both Toyota & Lexus have overtones don't they?
There is a bit of spindle grille in Camry.
Headlights similar?
Camry tail lights & hexagonal number plate housing have an overall similar silhouette to 4GS?
10 spoke Camry wheels look similar to 5x split [5x2] spoke GS wheels?
Meanwhile, Camry dash looks like old Lexus 3GS dash with touch screen?

This Corolla looks like the IS in the waist line at the apex of the rear window?

I believe Toyota and Lexus should look totally different.

Toyotas should have:
steel body, 1.0L 3 cylinder and 1.5 & 2.0L 4 cylinder turbos, port injection, 6 speed auto, front drive, front wheel steering, with single lower link MacPherson strut suspension, and coil springs.

Meanwhile Lexus should be:
hi % aluminium component, 2.0/2.5/3.0L V6 electrically-assisted twin-turbos, direct injection, pneumatic/electromagnetic valves, 8 speed auto, rear drive, rear wheel steering, multi-link suspension, and pneumatic/hydraulic springs...

.

The IS and RC are great designs that look nothing like other Toyotas.

Toyota's decision to let the Camry use the "new face of Lexus" is a disgrace!

Theres always going to be a family resemblance because they're built/designed by the same company.

On the contrary, my post : that GS is on a dedicated Lexus-only platform and fundamentally a different car from the Camry is simply stating facts and not being caught up in emotions.

I am not trying to refute that some people subjectively feel that the Camry and GS look similar. Your subjective opinions are your opinions and you are more than free to hold those opinions.

My point is to state that despite their subjective view that the GS and Camry look similar, in reality, both cars could not be more dissimilar aside from the fact that both have 4 wheels, a front mounted engine, have front and rear lights and are 4 door sedans. And have a wide mouthed front grille.

One is a designed-from-ground-up lightweight, high rigidity, complex suspension platform that is aimed to outhandle high end German executive sports sedans and can handle up to 400+ hp with minimal adjustments(GS). The other is a bread and butter Toyota platform designed to be cross-shared and be simple and easy to build in order to be a volume model for Toyota(Camry).

Opened up this thread and got that same feeling you get when you step on dog s#!t.

Butthurt that so many people think GS looks like a Camry...I guess, but only because that I'm sad that people have no clue what they are talking about. Coming from a design background I just don't see the similarities at all. They both do have 4 wheels and unique looking grills but never have I seen a Camry/Corolla and asked myself "is that a Lexus?"

Now we're posting up comparison images of Corollas next an IS? Reaching a bit?

What's next? You know PT Cruisers look so similar to the RX as well.

I don't see the similarities at all either. I saw a new Camry parked on the street today and looked at it with this thread in mind, totally don't get it.
