Need opinion on GS...should I buy?

So word just came from the Lexus dealership that my 06 IS 350 needs around $1100 in repairs so I'm figuring it's time to pull the trigger on a GS instead of repairing. I found the following for $37K. What do you guys think?

2013 GS 350 F-Sport, 38K miles, RWD, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Mark Levinson, All Black.

No warranty but since it's a non-lexus dealership but doesn't this warranty go till 50K miles? And can I purchase one from Lexus after the fact if I don't buy from them?

Yes to both questions about warranty. And the GS is RWD.

Maybe he means four wheel drive?

Sorry meant to say rear wheel drive. I fat fingered it. It is now corrected

This seems overpriced. My 2013 car was 18k miles, AWD, luxury with ML and CP, CPO, $42k a year ago.

Yea, the price is too high. I don't know the pacific NW market but you should be able to get it for $33-34k or even less.

Even though KBB is $40K? And there is only one dealership in the Portland/Vancouver area. Not buying from them but prices are generally in the $40K or above range from what I've seen.

First off, I never looked at KBB anymore. For a 2013 base RWD with premium package with 38k miles and without CPO, you should be able to get one for $33-34k without. I only followed mid-atlantic region when I was looking thought.

Actually, I just re-read the first post and saw that yours is an f-sport. I don't know how I missed it when I replied earlier. I would add $1-2k to my earlier price if it's an f-sport. Your region might be different but there is a 2013 AWD with similar mileage as yours listed in PA/NJ for a few months now for $37k.

See if you can get a couple grand off. If not and the car is clean, buy it, you won't regret it. Had mine a month and love it. Perfect ride...sport, luxury, comfort. It's the full package.

Re: the GS F Sport, it is a fantastic car. I had mine for almost 3 years, which is pretty much a record for me. It was that perfect. Fun to drive, beautiful interior, awesome ML sound system, great engine sounds, comfortable seats, everything. I only traded it because I wanted to go back to a coupe and the RC looks just didn't do it for me. I do agree that the price is high, since my trade-in on a flawless '13 GS F Sport w/ 20k miles was $34k (although I believe the dealer asked $41k and most likely sold it for $38k). Try to get him to come down another couple of $thousand. In any case, I think you will love the car.

i don't think the price is all that bad, but it never hurts to ask for more off

I will add that this car is through Carmax if that changes anyones opinion on whether I should purchase. I've never dealt w/ them before.

That's where you messed up at. $1,110 repair at a dealer might be $500 at a mechanic. What repairs are needed?

+1

The high stealership repair quote spooked you, IMHO. Get a second opinion from an Independent mechanic before you jump ship. Labor costs are usually lower.

I got 3 other quotes with the lowest being $700. The repair isn't necessarily the catalyst making me buy a new car. I was looking for one anyway. It just helped jumpstart the process. My IS has 115K miles so I am thinking it's time to move on.
