Maint cost in first 50k miles

What should one expect to pay for maintenance in the first 50k miles - i.e. oil changes, tire rotation, etc?

Trying to compare costs to the other OEMs that offer 4yr/50k mile free maintenance.

It depends on whether you use the dealer or not, and the prices vary from dealer to dealer. Your first two services are free at the dealer...a 5k service is just a tire rotation and multi-point inspection, 10k includes an oil change.

So you'll have 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, 35k, 40k, 45k and 50k.

If you estimate 4 5k services at around $200...thats $800.

If you estimate 4 10k services at around $300...$1,200...

So I'd say $2,000 not including brakes if you use the dealer.

My independent charges $60 or so for the 5k, $150 for the 10k...so $720.

I use a Toyota dealership but in the end my cost ends up being the same as if I were to take it to Lexus for a oil change. I only use Toyota as they let me stand there when they do the service and I can bring in my own oil. (mobil 1 full syn)

I get my oil changed every 7.5k miles and don't go by the book. My local Lexus dealership charges $59 for oil changes (earlybird Saturday special is $39) and im not sure about the tire rotations as i get free rotation and balance cuz i purchased my tires from discount tire. The only other service that costs upwards of $400 is the major 15k, 30k service. These services include an oil change too. Also oil changes happen every 10K according to the manual but like i mentioned before I change mine every 7.5K miles.

Your Lexus dealer charges $59 or $39 for a SYNTHETIC oil change? I don't see how that's possible in that the oil itself costs that.

I assume you're thinking of buying a bmw which has the maintenance included, you can just say so, you don't need to be coy about it.

One thing to consider is how do you drive the car.
If you actually use a sports car to it's capabilities and do things like sign up to go autocross every weekend; then specifically for your brakes/rotors, you'll definitely get your money's worth of brake and rotor replacements from bmw.

But If you're using the car just as an applicance and pretty much drive the same as a guy who'd own a minivan drives, then less maintenance is going to be needed. So you really need to look at yourself and see what kind of driver you really are most of the time.

Alternatively, you can also just see how much lexus is going to charge you for a 4 year pre-paid maintenance plan. Then you'll be comparing things more closely.
