4GS mega thread (UPDATED; preview drives, specs, more interior pics)
So what do you think of this forecast:
1) GS pre production concept shown in Geneva (March)
2) 4GS shown in Tokyo or Paris (Fall)
3) 5ES shown in LA (since US only model)
4) 3IS shown in Geneva 2012
My logic is that with an aging line up, they need a design concept to get people to keep the faith rather than going elsewhere.

Hard plastics last longer. Longevity is right. Cheap? What interior are you looking at to compare a camry to? The Hyundai? The Fusion? Brand new cars? Every single one I've sat in isn't very upscale. They're family sedans, not luxury liners. Toyota does what it does, they've heard the criticism, I'm pretty sure the next batch of cars will be great.
I have overheard word that there are TWO new Lexus models hitting the market in 2011. One of course is the CT, and that leaves one more. It must be either the next-gen ES or next-gen GS hitting showrooms at the end of this year. The question is which one? Since the Camry hits showrooms this fall, my guess would be the next-gen ES.
Again I must simply
.
This is based on comments from Inside Line, combined with your sense?
My sense is that a lot of people will eat a lot of their words in the next several years when all the new Toyota and Lexus products come out. Who am I to say anything though. Actions speak louder than words. Toyota's actions over the next few years will prove to be louder than the words of haters and critics alike.
Possible, we'll see.
Inside Line commented that recent Toyota products no longer have class leading interiors. Plastics are the old hard type as opposed to the premium soft touch ones, the leather seems a cheaper grade than what you would find in a Ford.
My sense is that this is a will issue. Toyota doesn't want to offer more than competitors, but would rather offer less, have fat margins, and compete on reliability rather than content.

Whats funny to me is not to long ago Toyota was doing so well and Ford/GM/Chrsyler were sucking so bad Toyota increased prices to make the American brands look more competitive. Why did they do that? Toyota knew a collapse of the American brands would actually hurt Toyota. This was stated by Toyota themselves.
Now that the brands have caught up to Toyota (and passed in some ways) they want to act like they always had their **** together. Well I'll judge these new cars in 5-15 years and see how they hold up and how they work. Its easy to get excited about a new car not thinking about how will the vehicle hold up over time.
Its like the people humping Hyundai. Well I'm glad they FINALLY make some good cars but some brands have done that for decades.
Toyota/Lexus has proven over time if they do make a mistake, they eventually fix it and come out with an arguably class leading product. As much as the Camry gets beat up by some people it wins comparos, it sells well and it is WAY BETTER than the previous model.

FYI my posts aren't intended for people like you. They're intended for people who would test every car on the market without bias, and choose on that basis. Not those who go in with assumptions.

The materials inside the Camry are not bad. The dash is soft touch. I have sat in the Sonata and Fusion and the Malibu and all of them have harder plastics than the Camry. Sonata especially was very disappointing considering every magazine editor was going ga ga over it. Regarding design, the Sonata will look very dated very soon, the existing Camry however boring everyone calls it will still look handsome 5 years later. Lets see what the new products have in store. I am looking forward to the new Toyota's and Lexus. It is great that Lexus won the top spot in the luxury market even though compared to the BMW and Mercedes they have fewer variations available. BMW and MB give a lot of choices in terms of body style and engines.

You sound like someone who would never even consider anything other than a Toyota.

You sure are making a lot of personal comments and assumptions.
Do I prefer Toyota/Lexus products? Of course, we ARE on a Lexus forum after all. Would I ever consider anything else? Obviously I would, you can look through some of my posts and easily discover this.
If I needed a heavy duty pickup I would only consider Ford or GM. Porsche is one of my favorite brands overall. I also love the new chunky and blocky styling direction Benz is going in.
I am an automotive enthusiast, I drive and examine all sorts of vehicles. Again, you are making a lot of assumptions here about me.
You yourself are going in with a lot of assumptions regarding the future of the luxury market and Toyota/Lexus versus the competition. I find your line of thinking ironic in that regard.

If you were to believe the internet/media hype and the fanboys, then the Camry has "bad" plastics while all competitors like the Sonata, Fusion, and Altima have "superior" plastics. Fact is, this just isn't true. Like you, I've sat in all of these cars, and many of these cars in real life disappoint with their interior quality compared to the internet/media hype.
If this is the next gen. GS...then I give this a big "FAIL!" This does not look sporty enough to have a GS badge on the rear.
However, I see this as being a decent improvement for the ES. From every detail and angle, the silver car looks like a refresh of the current ES.
