Menu and Navigation buttons don't work and climate control error
Took my 2015 Lexus GS 350 to dealer because the Menu and Navigation buttons don't work next to the arm rest. In addition I get climate control error see dealer message.
They diagnosed the issue as the radio not sending the signals and said I need to change the radio. They quoted $2600 installed. Could there be another issue that is causing these problems? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks |
Did they happen to give you any error codes? Do other buttons work for the mouse selector (back and select/enter)?
|
Pick a used radio from a junker ( https://car-part.com/ ) or try ebay .
|
No they didn't provide me with error codes. They said the radio is not sending the correct signals to the buttons and also that the radio was causing the false climate control error contact dealer message.
The navigation, menu and up and down buttons located together do not work. The mouse works okay. |
Do you have any issues with the strength of the air coming out of the vents/uneven air flow/etc? For the climate control error: servo motors are a known issue with the 4GS: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ll-notice.html
If its truly the radio and nothing to do with the climate control error, they are charging a ridiculous amount...but not as much as this poster here where they wanted $10,000 for a new radio/installation: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...00-repair.html The radio is fairly easy to remove and replace if you're inclined as there are multiple threads showing how to do it yourself. Lots of great condition radios available on eBay for fairly cheap (and you can take it to a good local audio shop to do the swap for you for much less than the cost of a new one with the dealer): https://www.ebay.com/itm/325457907284 https://www.ebay.com/itm/185745241986 https://www.ebay.com/itm/125323291748 Or if you prefer the dealer handle the install, see if they'll install the radio if you buy it on your own and just have them spend an hour of their labor/time/cost swapping it out.. |
That Mouse and Radio have to boot together to work. I would try a Reset and/or Battery disconnect. The Mouse has a connection also. Don't know if done already?
Also seen so many other GS at Dealers with so much liquid spills on the consoles. Could coffee, or soda or anything have gotten in the buttons? |
My radio ID number is P10824. I don't know why all the other radios with different ID numbers are half the price. All of the sellers say you must match up the ID numbers on face plate to confirm compatibility. Cheapest radio with face ID P10824 so far is $1100.

Posting here a suggestion, only because I did this earlier and have a picture. I know you have an earlier 4th gen but I assume this is probably similar.
There's a connector that goes to the mouse (I'm guessing from the radio?). From the mouse, there's some wires that go to the buttons you are having trouble with. Going off the comment from jgscott, maybe some liquid got in the buttons causing them to not work? If you have the time, you can try taking apart your center console. Here's the mouse module and how it's connected to the buttons. Three Philips screws hold the buttons in. See if there isn't any obvious missing connection, or anything shorted out. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...da04314c8b.png |
Starting to hate my Lexus
I literally just got the same issue. I was quoted $3600 to replace the radio. And I wasn’t given any codes the guy said “your radio most likely shorted out from inside”
I swear I was so happy to almost paying off my car and got thrown this at me. this what my screen looks like https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...996eea970.jpeg Just says this https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...03f104890.jpeg Radio doesn’t work at all https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...ab1dacf17.jpeg Camera works fine |
Did you guys try the battery disconnect reset for 10 minutes?

How to remove arm rest that holds mouse and menu buttons
How did you remove the arm rest housing that holds the mouse and menu buttons to confirm the buttons are connected to the motherboard? I was looking for and screws or clips as I didn't want to damage anything.
Appreciate any assistance. Thanks, |

Thanks, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-4th-gen-2013-2020/1000741-creaking-center-console-fix-attempt.html EDIT: Before trying to take it apart you could try just disconnecting the mouse module and see what the radio does? I didn't actually try that before so I don't know how it'd react. The buttons connect to mouse/joystick module then then seems to connect to the radio. Just trying to simplify the steps. But to PGA71's point, simplest troubleshooting would be to first disconnect the battery to see if that resets anything. |

If you have 2013 any 2013-2014 radio will work. If you have 2015 you need 2015 radio. For 2016+ any 2016+ radio will work. ML vs ML doesn't make a difference just a logo on the face plate, the amp is what produces the audio output signals not the radio. |
What ended up being the fix just happened to me
