Sunroof won't open using remote. How do I open it remotely?
 

I have a 2006 GS430. I'm inheriting it from my father and I love the car, beauty to drive. I'm playing around with the features, and I try to remote window roll down. It's the one where you press the unlock button for a few seconds and the windows and sunroof go down. Now I notice on my car, only the windows go down, but the sun roof doesn't open. I just think to myself "must be a feature for the later models." But as I am reading, I realize that the 2GS had this feature. I look through my manual and realize that it IS supposed to open the sunroof. This may be for two reasons. One, it may be a personalized setting only for the dealer to program. Two, I sent my ECU to a shop to get it fixed, and they tweaked it in some way. How do I get it the sunroof to open remotely without going to the dealer?

The setting change needs the TechTool at a Dealer or possibly the Carista app folks could help out with this.

Yes you can set it with Techstream, I just saw the setting yesterday when playing with it.

Does the sunroof operate properly (i.e., you shouldn't have to hold down the buttons for it to open fully or close fully)? I found that when my sunroof needed the reset procedure (hold "up/vent" until it cycles through all positions) the "remote open" for the sunroof stopped working, but the windows continued to work. After the reset, it functioned properly.

The sunroof doesn't continue when holding the open/close and up/down feature. This was actually another of my concerns. How did you reset yours? A dealer, a shop, or did you do the reset yourself? I'd like to do everything on my own if possible. Thanks for the input, this is really valuable information.

On my 2006 GS, I had to hold the “up” button (which goes to vent position). As I held it, it went up, down, back and then returned to the fully closed position. This resets the “limits” of the positions. After that, all was good.

This may need to be performed anytime you have a loss of power (dead battery).

Is that the same for the '08 GS460 windows do you know? Sorry to semi-hijack but kind of relevant, should I NOT have to continue holding the button to lower/raise the windows? I don't have the sun roof, but when I do the windows remotely I do have to hold the button (up or down)... Annoying. It will stop opening/closing when I let go. Possibly a programmable feature and how? If so, can the windows you want up/down by remote be specified? Long shot that last one I know ;)

So, I think we're mixing up some terminology here. OP was referring to opening the sunroof with the remote fob. My fix was referring to holding down the physical buttons for the sunroof operation.

My remote windows work the same as yours--you have to hold the remote button the whole time. I looked in Techstream and didn't see any option to change that.

Continue to hold the fob "unlock" button to fully open windows/sunroof.
Release midway to stop motion if you are just venting and wish to keep
the car semi-secure against reach-in theft. Note: windows will not be all
open the same amount as some start moving earlier than others.

Related feature is window roll-up/sunroof closing by using the mechanical
key in the driver's door lock cylinder. Easy on some Lexi, awkward on those
with key hole covers such as pre-2012 ES's. Just insert key and twist counter
clock wise. While it would be cool to have the fob "lock" button do the opposite
of the "unlock" roll down and be able to close openings...imagine not being in
view of the car while closing the windows...on Fido or a child's neck.
