Default Heated seat w/cooling vs. heated without cooling

Does anyone know how they implemented the heated seats in the cars with both heating and cooling vs. the cars with just heated seats (no cooling)?

I had a 06 GS300 with just heated seats (no cooling) and the heated seats were very hot. Within a few minutes I would turn it down. It would warm me up while I am waiting for the engine to warm up enough to blow warm air out the vents. Now, with my 08 GS 350, it takes just as long to heat the seats as it does for the car to blow warm air. Even when I am driving for a long time, over 30 minutes, I never have to turn down the tempterure of the seat. I can keep it on 3 all the time, because it doesn’t get hot enough.

I think I read somewhere that the ones with the cool seat option used a different mechanism to heat the seat and so it’s not as efficient as the heating pad used in the one with just heated seats. I can’t find much info about how they work.

People with heated and cooled seats, does yours get pretty hot? is something wrong with my heated seats in my 08 GS?

Not sure how the seats are implemented. My 2008 gs350 gets pretty hot, there are times I have to turn it down a touch because it gets too hot.

The Cooling seat has multiple holes in the cushion to circulate the air. The heating element would have to be smaller or work around the holes. The Non-cooling seat is just a solid cushion with a heating element.

When you say “there are times”, do you mean sometimes? On my non-cooled seat, it ALWAYS gets too hot on 3, and most times it end up on 1 for comfort. On my cooled seat, maybe after 1/2 hour, it sometimes gets too hot and I turn it down to 2.

So are you saying that it DEFINATELY has a different design which would explain why it is not as hot? Or are you theorizing a possible reason?

I found this tread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...s-of-pics.html
lots of treads tell how lackluster the heating is on the seats with cooling. I used to yearn for the cooling seats when I had my 06, now I feel like I have seat slow warmers rather than the real seat heaters I had. I would gladly give up the cooled seats now to get back real seat heaters.

I got both heated and cooled it warms up hellafast and burns my *** real quick
my guess is that they later went with a more gentle setup. The heaters should have temp sensors so it might have a cooler shut off temp or a different work algorithm

And if you wear clothes you won't feel the heat as much

Learned something new today, thought the seats were A/C, didn't realize they were just ventilated.

Well if you have ac on the cushion will eventually become cool to the touch. It does what it's supposed to do. You can't have ice cold air blasting at your ***, you might get very very sick, like sitting on cold ground for a long time, or cold concrete, same thing.

This winter, I am again reminded how lackluster the heated seats are in my 08 GS. By the time the seats heat up, my car has already heated up. They are somewhat pointless at that point.

I've been contemplating purchasing OEM cloth seat covers to replace the leather, as both the heating and cooling options should work better with those. Can't quite justify it given that the leather is fine, but... eh...
