Check Oil engine / warning light

2008 GS 350 with 160K miles. Great condition. Well maintained. Change oil every 5K miles.
In July and just today the check oil engine warning light came on.
Could I possibly have an oil leak or does oil burn faster with high mileage?

I occasionally get a “low engine oil” light between oil changes but it’s because my GS300 burns oil more frequently than the 3.5 liter engines on 2007 and later models. Adding a quart of oil between oil changes will typically make the warning lights disappear. My mechanic says it’s nothing to worry about as long as I check the oil regularly and of course have it changed every 2k-3k miles. I use ValvolineMax Synthetic Blend for high mileage vehicles. At 180k miles now and the vehicle still runs and sounds beautifully.

I would keep an eye on your oil level and see what it does. You can put a new clean cardboard underneath the car and if you have any major oil leaks it will drop on the cardboard.

My opinion its best to change your oil before 5k, 3K is what I change my oil and I use standard non-synthetic castrol oil.

It could also be your piston rings are getting gummed up! What you can do to help clean them is to remove the spark plugs and pour seafoam into each spark plug hole let it sit over night. Then spin the engine without the plugs or with compressed air blow out the remainder seafoam that you poured in. Also if you pour seafoam and you see one cylinder just quickly empties out the seafoam into the oil, know that the rings on that piston are gummed up and that are causing your oil burning.

This is so odd! I just had the same issue in Nov, last month, as well!

I have an 2007 with 163k, pretty much the same car as you, and have owned it since 85k, and NEVER have had this issue....i change oil every 5k, like clock work....

Anyway, when this happened last month I added a quart, and figured I would be fine until i got to the normal 5k mark....i have an appt. next week, but it popped up today on my way home.

I wonder if the last time i had oil changed the screw wasn't tighten as much as it should have and i am leaking?
