I don't have the unit yet. Maybe someone else can chime in. It should be here in a month. I'm looking at the end of Oct to early Nov. A majority of these Tesla style units are coming from China. Even through Phoniex Audio, they still import their units from China.
Just to keep everyone in the loop, the vendor finally shipped my unit. A couple replies back and forth, they said they were doing testing and quality control. Right.... Should be here Nov 20th.
Look what came in today! I'm waiting for my backup camera to come in today. Amazon is slow...I'll create a new thread after I get the video and snapshots tomorrow.
Congrats! That looks nice. Looking forward to hear your comments on install and review of how user friendly it is to set up. I've been on the fence for a while. Convince me to pull the trigger.
I have the unit in. It's Plug and Play, really easy. If you install a car stereo in the past, then this shouldn't be an issue. I wish the fit and finish was a bit better. I'll have the videos on youtube today.
*Just a few cliff notes
The harness they provide will connect to all the factory harness. Nothing is left out.
I forgot to mention the Can-bus module. Please install that. It's necessary for steering wheel controls.
In the video, I mention that I couldn't get the sound to work. I didn't plug one of the harnesses. You are going to use all the connections on the main harness.
I figure out why the physical buttons didn't work. I forgot to plug in that harness. It controls the AC and hazard lights.
Temp shown on the bottom of the screen alternates between F and C. If you pull up the full AC screen, it'll show the temp in F.
My unit is running Android 6.0.4. Shows a total of 27GB after OS and 3-4 pre-install apps. I'm holding off on the backup camera. Looks like I have the take the outershell off the trunk to secure the cam.
The touch is sensitive. Some of the on-screen buttons are small. Could be an issue if you have bigger fingers.
Some takeaways. I wish they include some sort of support for the bottom portion of the factory bracket. Pretty much, only two screws per sides support the unit. It's not heavy but I would like this a bit more sturdy. They should provide longer GPS antenna cable. They included a OBDII plug but there are no inputs on the harness.
It this a plug and play install? if not, on a scale of 1-10 how difficult is the install?
This particular unit is plug and plug. I didn't have to modify the harness. Most of the time, I had to play with the bracket and lining it up with the opening.
This model looks aesthetically cleaner than the other units with the rounded ***** at the bottom. However I’m still hesitant about purchasing one because there seems to be a lack of customer support. These units control so much of the critical functionality of the car and if something goes wrong you are out of luck if you have no expertise in this area. I’ve spent lots of money on adult toys like drones and other fun items so the cost isn’t the issue, it’s the lack of a solid company that stands behind the product. I’ll wait a little longer until the bugs are worked out. Looks fantastic though.
