I think the older cars have different software.

A "tank average" can be reset automatically when you add gas to the tank.

if (gas.post > gas.pre)
gas.tankavg 0;

while I am thinking about the test drive again, the engine seemed noisy when accelerating. It had a soft sound like coins in a jar sound. I couldnt tell if it was exhaust or valvetrain. I heard nothing at idle with the hood up.

Yes, it's true. Mpgs reset every time you fuel up.

Sorry, but in my experience I have had to press a reset button to reset the ave mpg. For example, both our old 08 and new 2018 Sienna XLE has a reset button. Honestly, I prefer that so I can see the average over many tanks of fuel. But now that I know the 13.9 represents this tankful, I can see how the data might get scewed. Thank you
