Default Trunk Lid Slamming Shut 2007 GS 350

Hello! I just bought a 2007 Lexus GS 350 and, while at the dealership, I noticed the truck lid was not easy to lift, and it would slam shut unless raised near the fully-opened position.

Is the heavy lid a flaw for the year? Are the struts possibly in need of replacement?

I appreciate any assistance!

Sounds like the struts need replacing. Mine was like that until I replace both struts.

Is the trunk supposed to lift on its own? Mine has been like this since I bought it 2 years ago

No. It's not supposed to lift on its own. It's supposed to help assist lifting the trunk. It's a stupid design and I'm glad they got rid of it in the new GS. It's only there to increase luggage capacity, hence no hinges protrudes into the trunk area.

Mine is very heavy as well...not sure how easy it is suppose to "assist". I agree it's a stupid design

It’s still heavy with the new shocks but not as heavy with one or two bad shocks.

It's also there to hold the trunk open.
