like an idiot I did......
so like the title states I made an idiot move.........while trying to be the good husband on my day off I decided to help around the house and do some chores. One of those chores being the laundry. Well instead of checking every pocket like a smart person I just grabbed everything that was dirty and began to wash the clothes. Well I ended up leaving the MY KEY FOB in my pants. I didn't notice it till about 20mins after the washer had started and and it was too late. After digging the FOB out of the washer I immediately dried it off and placed it in a bag of rice hoping the rice will dry it out and I don't have to buy another transmitter and have it reprogrammed. It's been in the bag of rice for 2 days, plan on leaving it in there for another 2 days just to see if it will help.
Any body else pull a expert move like this? Did you still have to replace the key?
I can't believe I did this, and needless to say I'm not doing the laundry anymore!! HAHAH

The FOB should be water resistant for the most part. a few minutes in a tank of water shouldn't be any issue just dry off the outside, open it, make sure the guts are in fact dry

Got home, opened the bag of rice, opened the FOB up and cleaned it off, along with the transmitter. I put it all back together, double clicked the lock button and BOOM it locked, unlocked, trunk opened, everything worked. These things can def take some abuse lol

FWIW its not the water that hurts stuff its the stuff in the water / contaminates that are left behind that allow growth and/or corrosion/oxidation of the PCBA. Of course energy from the battery accelerates this.
First order pop the battery. Clean with soap and water. Bag it or throw it in the oven at 150°F for couple hours.
For sugars - use soap and water. Rinse with warm water.
This applies to cell phones, laptops, tablets. Disassemble as needed to clean debris out.
