About three weeks ago I had my water pump changed. A couple days ago I was driving and the engine shut off check engine light and check VSC notification displayed on the dash. The mechanic check the engine code and it came up code p1235 and stated that I needed a new high pressure fuel pump. I had the car about 2 years not one issue since the water pump was changed. Any advice? Would the water pump being changed has something to do with this issue? The high pressure fuel pump ranges between 1000 and$1,300 😦

It's the high pressure fuel pump for the direct injection.

It most likely has nothing to do with the water pump at all. your water pump is for your radiator and your fuel pump is for your fuel.

I doubt they could have damaged it in the process of changing your water pump.

Ive never ever heard of one to go bad! Why not try disconnecting the battery and check the connection to the pump. Maybe theres water/moisture in the connection.

Worst case go for a used one in a junk yard or ebay, I doubt theyll be expensive as they hardly go bad so there should be tons for sale

the part number I need is 23100 - 39618 I can't find that part used online however Lexuspartsnow.com states that that part number has been replaced by 23100-39645. Now the part number 23100 - 39645 is available on eBay for $200. The seller states that the part is compatible with my car however if I search for the part on an online Lexus parts store it states that it's not compatible. So I'm faced with buying the new part for $1,000 or taking a Gamble and buying a used part for $200 but my gut feeling is that it may be a connection issue.

You could call your local Lexus dealership parts department, give them your VIN, and ask them if 23100-39645 will work for your car

Whenever I've ordered updated parts, they've always looked and fit exactly the same as the older part number

UPDATE!
I had the high pressure fuel pump (used), sensor for the fuel pump (new), and throttle body (used) changed. I picked up the car Tuesday car drove as normal today I start the car and with in 2 seconds the engine shut off. So I start it again it starts up I drive about 20 minutes then the engine shut off as I'm driving. I still suspect this was all caused by the water pump when it was changed about a month ago. The mechanic scanned the car and no codes showed up. I don't know what to do.

Check that your injector driver is secured. Its grounded through the engine block. The injector driver is removed for replacement of the water pump. Check all the wires of the 4 connectors also. Its possible they may have pulled a wire out just enough to make poor contact to the driver.

There is a fuel pressure sensor that is known to go bad on GS350's it sounds like your issues that you are having.

The fuel pressure sensor was replaced.

If you can have the problem pop back up, I would talk to your mechanic and have him run his scan tool and do a data log and see what is shutting off when the car dies out. If your mechanic cant figure this out, take it to the dealer or toyota dealer, instead of slapping tons of parts it hopes of remedying the problem. Find someone who can diagnose the car

Were you ever able to find out exact what was wrong? I am having the same issues.

I took it back to the mechanic and explained to him the shutting off started when he changed the water pump. He took another look at it and said he regrounded all the wires. Knock on wood its been running fine ever since. Good luck.
