2006 Lexus GS300 Gear Shift **** Removal
Have a 2006 GS300 Automatic with leather and burl wood gear shift **** cap. Over time, the leather has worn down and faded, and want to replace with new(er) replacement **** I've located (same version).
Wanted to confirm with this community (before attempting) if and how I can remove the gear shift **** from the gear stick (some have advised it merely screws off when turned counter clockwise, others have indicated it doesn't , still others that it's glued on).
Anyone have confirmed guidance on whether it can be removed safely, and how? Many thx

What Brian7 said. Just unscrew it.
It is remotely possible that someone put loctite on it it in the past (perhaps people kept stealing them...). Turn harder there is little that you can damage as long as you're only applying rotational torque to it. If it still doesn't work, you can try heating it with a blowdryer for some time until it's good and hot and then try again - it may loosen some adhesive if it is there. If they used a permanent adhesive then you're kind of stuck short of cutting the **** off with a sawzall - if it were me and I really wanted to get a glued one off I would cut it in half, first from one side to the center then from the other side, then top down and see if I could pry the quadrants off.
Then again if it were me I would just stop caring about the leather and forget about it if the choice was that or a sawzall in the car.
