Default Front passenger door Mark Levinson speaker is dying. Where can I find a replacement?

Hey, all!

I've been lurking on here for awhile now, but alas, my speaker has forced me to ask for help on my 2006 GS300. The local dealership wants to charge $266 (including labor) to replace it, but I am curious to see if I can find the same front passenger door speaker for less. Google hasn't been much help, unfortunately. There seems to be a lot of 2nd Gen GS Mark Levinson speakers floating around, but not a lot of the 2006 models.

Thanks!

I'm on the same boat, I read that there's some kit we can buy to reseal the cone for about $25. Something like this, can someone else who did this chime in? There are quite a few YouTube tutorials on how to do this

Yeah, I saw that too. It's pretty tempting haha. I also found this video showing some guy taking off his door panel:
. That was the only video of that kind I could find.

I have narrowed down what speakers are in the doors. I believe they are the Mark Levinson model# 86160-0WB10 although I am waiting for confirmation on that. They run $65-75.

good to know I'm not alone in this journey!!!

Have ML in a 2006 GS and it came without Subwoofer, and a cheap pair of boss ch6530 in the front doors. The amplifier seems to work fine, is just that the speakers are not the proper ones, or the previous owner removed it.
Searching for replacements on ML systems I bumped into a brand called Eminence. Seems that those are one of the few 8-ohm speakers
So far I'm looking into

or http://www.zzounds.com/item--EMNBETA6A

Hope it can help you guys in something. It looks like nobody had researched very much the GS 3rd gen . It's really hard to find good DIY guides for this car.

Still searching for the rear door panel open guide....

Thanks for the panel removal link. Looking back I realized that video was for the 2nd Gen GS.
Those speakers will probably require some additional work to get them in and working, that's why i'm trying to stick with the ML speakers, because at least i know they'll fit.

Please pay attention to ohms. The pre facelift uses 6 ohm speakers the facelift 4 ohm. don't use 4 ohm speakers on an amp that is designed for 6 ohm speakers als it will clip at high volumes. Clipping will cause damage to your speakers and/or amp. I refoamed a lot of speakers and it is a job you can do with being a bit handy. If you like I can post a manual on how to refoam speakers. For cars the better option is to refoam them with thin rubber instead of real foam because it is way better uv resistant and supports better humidity.

Thank you for the post. I have found that my rear speakers are/maybe blown and when I speak to people in the car, it sounds muffled so I am in the same boat.

Thought i'd give an update. I bought and installed the speaker (used TLS auto recycling); everything went in okay. The biggest problem was that I couldn't get the door panel off completely because something in the top half of the panel was preventing it from detaching, but luckily I was able to lay on my back and reach in and feel around for the bolts. It took way longer than it should have because I couldn't see what I was doing at all, but it worked, so no complaints. Lexus wanted to charge me $266. Ended up doing it for $70.
