Default Oil Consumption Test 2006 GS300 Questions

I took my Lexus to the dealer after complaining about the oil consumption, black soot on the bumper and tailpipes, etc. I've taken it there on several occasions and they've used synthetic blend. They marked the filter and drain plug. The morning after, dipstick check when engine is cold is one-eighth of an inch above the full mark.

Two questions:

Is it typical for a dealer during a consumption test to over fill the oil level to make it seem that there is less oil consumption when checked?

Seems that they also changed the viscosity from 0-20 to 5-30. Is it also possible that if the dealer used full synthetic instead of synthetic blend that there would be less burn off or blow by of oil?

Just take photos of the dipstick oil level and send them a email with that so you have evidence.

0w or 5w 30 is actually the correct viscosity for your engine.

Sounds like you have carbon buildup issue, which is why you have soot coming out of the tailpipe. Majority of 2006 GS300 get this issue and lexus has even offered to rebuild the engine for free. But they may have stopped doing this. If you're the second you can check mylexus.com and view your vehicles past work history to see if it has ever been done.

Are you getting any fault codes popping up?
