Default Advice. Engine failure at 115,000

My 2007 GS 350 AWD was acting strange after work one day last week when I started her up. I heard a slight ticking/knocking sound that went away but came back a few different times the next day. The third day I was on my way to the Lexus dealer to have it inspected and it started screeching on the highway like the belt was slipping. Pulled off and turned down a side street and she died. Had it flat bedded to the dealer and they tell me the oil is full of metal shavings. Wtf. They say around 6-7000$.... I'm not happy at all about this. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you do the valve spring recall yet?

For probably $3,500 (engine $2,500 install $1,000) you can install a used low mileage engine.

I found a 2009 2GR-FSE with 44,000 miles on it for $3000.... If the valve spring/springs did fail do I have enough leverage in that to go after compensation?

I would give it a shot, but im sure they may charge you to tear down your engine to inspect what is wrong.

Have you called 800 lexus number?

I called Toyota corporate offices in California and they directed me to Lexus. I opened a case and am waiting for them to call me supposedly today or tomorrow. What is the number your are talking about? I'd like it if you have it.

They will charge for that but the engine I am buying has no core charge so I will keep it and have it inspected at an unbiased shop.

Yes good thing you filed a case and they should be able to help you with a discount if anything.

I'm hoping they are willing to do something to stand behind their product. I have all service records/recalls done etc. To me there is no reason for the engine to fail. I take super good care of her....

These things happen! Goodluck with it, hopefully they full cover it or help out with the bill.

Did you ever replace your water pump? 350's are strong reliable engines, water pumps, and valve recall are of the main killers that ive noticed.

The water pump seemed fine and I just drained and filled the coolant recently with the Toyota Super Long Life coolant. It shows no signs of leaking anywhere and the engine temp never rose above normal operating temp on the gauge. It's a mystery but they are saying its a possibility it spun a rod bearing blah blah....that would explain the oil being full of metal shavings.

Lexus Customer Care returned my call last night and said they are looking into my case. She said I should receive a call back in the next few days with more information.
